This bug can be used to coordinate localization of the About page on
mozilla.org.  If localized text or HTML is attached, I can check this in to the
site (and we can work toward getting commit access to various localizers).

p.s. if you use just about and translate that, translation would be only letter O so might be good to "tweak" it a bit with something like O nama (About us)

Note that we don't have a language picker on the main About page yet and no
language negotiation on the site yet, but a localization system is coming soon.

Reopening.  Not sure if this is standard practice for other l10n bugs, but we
can leave this bug open to accept other localizations of the content.

As Bugzilla doesn't specify the page encoding when displaying attachment details, the browser picks its default one, that is ISO8859-1, at least for en-US and fr, though the attachment is UTF8 encoded, hence the weird characters.
I sent you the files by email.

Just added the Greek page.
I translated the alt text for the donation image, but isn't it obsolete anyway?
(btw, i hope there's no encoding problems, i checked text/html for the file type, is that ok or should it be plain text?)

Re the question about the donation image from comment #12, these images that are being used as promos now need to be converted into HTML and CSS so they can be localized.  I just opened bug 624554 to track that.

I've been working on an update to the About Mozilla page on the mozilla.org staging site at

The copy is changing and there's also a video we can provide subtitles for.  

If you're interested in localizing this, I can make all available translations live when we push this change.

This is the German translation of the new about page, the subtitles have been translated by a kind user on Universal Subtitles.

I've also translated the subtitles at the universal subtitles site.
I just hope that we'll host a snapshot of the subtitles somewhere and not use them directly from there, since it could be easily vandalized.

I think the discussion about how to use Universal Subtitles on Mozilla sites is happening in bug 597048.  May be worth adding comments there.

I added the new German localization and updated the Greek localization.

I also made some tweaks to both to keep them in sync with the English page:

* Referenced a new version of the video that we just went live with yesterday.  This video swaps out a few images throughout the video and adds a little bit at the end about supporting Mozilla.

* In the text on the second paragraph one reference of 'Firefox' was changed to 'Mozilla'

* The link for the Join Mozilla promo was changed.

If I accidentally messed up the German or Greek localizations by making these tweaks, please let me know.

Note that this bug is about the old mozilla.org/about page before the .org and .com merge so this may now be a dupe of a bug for localizing the new About page.
