Can you please test it with the latest nightly build? I can't reproduce it on my box.
Actually, the problem was that there were no search engines added to the search bar in the new profile I created for D2D.
Thanks. That's already bug 593692. Marking as dupe.

spammaaja: do you still have a profile that shows this problem? If so, can you attach the search.sqlite from it to this bug?

Attachment #472278 - Attachment is obsolete: true
Summary: Search bar does not work in D2D mode → No search engines in the search bar
Do those search engines return in the list when you reset the engines inside the search engine manager?
(In reply to comment #7) > Do those search engines return in the list when you reset the engines inside > the search engine manager? yes
Checking the search.sqlite file shows that all search engines have the hidden attribute set, which cause them to not appear in the search bar. I assume with this search.sqlite database in the profile, it works with a Firefox 3.6.x build?

Firefox 3.6 uses the same search.sqlite file, so it won't handle that file any differently than 4.0. It's an odd occurrence that would be good to figure out, but I don't think we can block on it based on a single report.

I wonder whether this might be related to moving back/forth between builds from before and after http://hg.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/rev/fbf106437925 , which changed the way we serialize the "hidden" attribute to the JSON cache. Is that within the realm of possibility, for the two of you who've seen this? Even ignoring possible weirdness due to the cache, we never set a value for "hidden" in the DB unless you remove an engine in the UI (using the "remove" button in the engine manager), so if this is really happening without that, then it kind of seems like it'd have to be a SQLite/storage bug. Bug 562612 seems vaguely related.
No, I haven't switched backed and also not removed the search engines.
JK, are you always using beta releases and no nightly builds of Firefox 4? Have you participated in the search bar studies by the testpilot extension?
JK, can you follow the steps in bug 620672 comment 23 to see whether this could have been test pilot related?
