606373 - Update check in About dialog doesn't display errors

Our office network is crappy today, and my OS X machine can't get online at all.

When I open the About dialog, I either get (depending on how fubared my connection is) an immediate "Minefield is up to date" or a long wait with "Checking for updates..." followed by the up-to-date message. Note that my Minefield build is _not_ up to date!

But if I go through the Check For Updates menu (which brings up the widescreen Software Update dialog), _that_ will explicitly report an error (immediately or after a wait). EG "Update Failed / There were problems checking for, downloading, yadda yadda could not be updated because: / Connection timed out" followed by a manual download link.

We need to:

1) Correctly show an error message (and detail?) in the About window when it fails.

and

2) Determine if we want to preserve the ability to show a manual download link, and how to show that in the About UI.

That is intentional per beltzner since there isn't room to provide details in the about ui.

note: I filed bug 599574 to provide a configurable (e.g. each app can choose what is shown) app update widget that would provide this. I plan on doing this after Firefox 4 and a couple of other things.

In bug 1099328 have not only duplicate.
This have bug for extensions update.

Please file a new bug under toolkit -> add-ons manager for the extension update case.
