This may not constitute a bug more a lack of feature? I have filters set on the imap server to put my mail into seperate folders. There is no way to check the message counts in the sub folders without clicking on each one individually.
Changed a lot of stuff and added [RFE] & marking NEW

Summary: Message counts in sub folder not updated → [RFE] Message counts in sub folders updates
I second this and must say this is a strong shortcoming of mozilla mail vs. netscape communicator (which used to update new message numbers in subfolders both automatically and per request on File > Update Message Count). Please, try to integrate this, it's crucial for IMAP users with filters and a large number of subfolders.
I would like to clarify that this is with filtering on the imap server not on the message filtering when you look at the inbox. Netscape has the same behaviour when filtering is done on the server as opposed to by the mail reading client.

I also consider this to be a critical feature for imap users where filtering is done server side. Out of the approximately 30 mail folders that I have (about half of which are subfolders), there are about 4 or 5 folders where it is crucial that I know when a new message is sitting in that folder. Usually I identify this by a folder count getting updated. The way it is now, I would need to remember to manually hit on the desired folders at regular intervals.
I recently switched to Moz Mail as my primary reader, but this missing functionality is a serious annoyance. I also filter my on my mailhost and having to click on each of 20+ folders is hardly a desired feature. The behavior is also inconsistent with the news component; opening a news server updates all of the subscribed groups - since the client is supposedly providing integrated mail/news services, the mail behavior should be the same.
Is this bug ever going to be anything other than RFE? If it weren't for this, I'd dump communicator completely.

Isn't this dup of bug 18266?
>Isn't this dup of bug 18266? Yes, I believe it is. Thanks for noticing this, as it gives me a chance to vote for a bug with a little more activity. :)
So, if it's a dup, is anyone going to mark it as that?

Because of this, we're resolving the bug as EXPIRED.
