4xp. This button was useful. This is a tracker bug. I will attach my proposed xul/js/dtd, but from what I have seen, I need some back end support. I think that I might make this a drop down with access to stop animated images enable/disable page plugins.

Please have bug 47475 in mind when doing this. :) Maybe you can fix both at the same time? It would be a great enhancement for sure! Fabian.

The back-end support is bug 57505. Stopping animations is a function of the Stop button (bug 21623), not the Load Images button, since stopping animations is usful to someone who always has images turned on and thus doesn't have the Load Images button on their toolbar. It's not really worth providing separate UI for loading all images and loading all plugins (given that there should be separate checkboxes for them in prefs), so this button should just load both types of object. It doesn't really make sense to fix this bug before bug 49543 is fixed, because there's no room for more buttons on the toolbar as is, but that's not really worth marking a dependency for.
Depends on: LoadImages

Most people I know love Netscape mainly for that "Show images" button. They say this button is a feature which _certainly_ makes Netscape _better_ than MSIE.
fwiw, ie can do this using ie power tools. as for commenting in the bug about why it's a great feature, that's a waste of bug space. if you want it sooner you can provide a patch and i'll help, otherwise i think i'm still blocked by another bug.

This should go in the status bar, and work just like the online/offline toggle there.

But Show Images isn't a toggle...

Absolutely true, someone (me) using 33kbps dial-up connection knows how to properly appretiate load images button, when he's surfing with images turned off. Opera 5.02 browser has a very nice solution for this, but I was quite happy with the "Load images" button in old Netscape. I can't wait for it to be implemented! Tnx.

Perhaps this should be closed like Bug 57505. - It has had 4 years without updates - there is at least one plugin which can basically do this https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/232 - users who want to browse without images is becoming a very small minority now, so a plugin seems appropriate - for the desktop versions anyway. If not, maybe we should dupe one to the other - basically the same function whether menu or toolbar button.
