long bookmarks in sidebar need tooltips, and show url in status bar.

There is nothing more frustrating than having a nicely structured bookmark file
and having it rendered almost useless because one can't read the bookmark in
MySidebar. This happens not only to long bookmark names but also to bookmarks
that are in sub-subdirectories and therefore indented to the point of only being
able to read the first few letters.

At a minimum, bookmarks that are cut off should receive a tooltip that appears
after 0.5 seconds.

Additionally, when the mouse hovers of ANY bookmark, the respective url should
appear in the status bar. This is useful if there are several "similar"
bookmarks and the user hasn't visited these sites in a while. The url in the
status bar could inform the user where he/she will be travelling BEFORE it is
too late .

This is the same as bug 23460, however it raises the sidebar bookmarks issue.
So what do we do? Add a comment for the sidebar on bug 23460 or keep this open
for this issue?

This is not like bug 23460 at all. The other bug only talks about when the
bookmarks are viewed from the menu.

This bug is all about using bookmarks from MySidebar. Here, tooltips are far
more relevant.

Also displaying the url on the statusbar is much more feasible here since the
other bug is talking about a fly-down menu, which has a more "menu-like"
behaviour (e.g. view menu-items while mouse depressed or not depressed, what
happens on mouse release, etc).

If MySidebar is to become the "killer app" of Mozilla (and well it should if
properly implemented), then the bookmarks there should function intuitively and
functionally. Thank You.

Fabian, hope you don't mind, but I think this should be a mozilla0.8 or 0.9
keyword (Low cost, high reward).

The mail6 keyword has nothing to do with mail, other than what the name "might"
imply. It is for "low risk, high gain" bugs. The definition makes no mention of
mail (see below):

"Keyword used to identify class of bugs for triaging purposes. Low risk, high
gain bugs. Bugs that require little engineering effort but have high user
benefit that might not otherwise have been fixed under the other keywords."

The other bug makes no mention of the URL showing in the statusbar while
hovering over a bokmark. I requested it there too now. Hopefully, they will
accept the addition, otherwise I will need to enter a separate bug report for
something that is imminently related.

Peter: The definition doesn't make a reference to the fact that 'mail6' only
applies to mail because it was assumed that it was blindingly obvious 
that 'mail6' applied to 'mail' and not, say, 'browser'. See bug 64864.

you're right Gerv. Moreover, this bug should concentrate on one issue. Since titletips are better than
the proposed tooltips and you'll get them for free once they're implemented, this bug should just
focus on the showing the url in the status bar bit.

changing to "titletips" because they show the full text immediately (almost),
and they display the text "inline" (on the *same* line as the bookmark.
Titletips are better than tooltips for the bookmarks in the sidebar.

Of course, an additional tooltip that shows the url (for 2-4 seconds) would be
nice as well ;)

And I would suggest that this bug remain closed because it serves no useful 
purpose remaining open.  This bug is in fact a duplicate of bug 32157, as I 
tried to mark it so many moons ago, but there were protests.  Don't keep 
reopening and reclosing this just to reflect the state of that bug.

RE. Comment #26: Gervase said in comment #10 that this is not a dupe. Frankly, I
think that if a feature does not work in the most recent nightlies, then it
should not be marked as fixed. This bug is a useful tool (reminder!) to confirm
that once the *general* titletips bug is fixed, that this special case is taken
care of too. Once we can confirm that in a nightly build, *then* we can mark
this fixed. Could someone superior to Blake please confirm or deny this reasoning?

P.S. "Show url in status bar" on hover over bookmark definetely doesn't work yet!

NO, this is not a useful "reminder" for anything. Let me explain to you how 
this works.  When bug 32157 is fixed, all outliners automatically get 
titletips.  It would be ridiculous if they each had to specify such a core 
behavior.  I don't care if gerv says it's not a dup.  And I couldn't care less 
that the bookmarks sidebar doesn't show the url in the statusbar on hover, 
that's a completely different bug.  Claudius intelligently said on 3/28 that 
this bug should only focus on the showing the url in the statusbar, but you 
kept whining about titletips.  So go file that as a separate bug and leave this 
one alone.
