Because Mozillians might as well come from one of the countries that supports additional characters, we should make sure to support those foreign characters in names.
Agreed. This makes sense, but since we're going to have a small group of locales in 1.0, let's move it back to a release that probably will have enough locales where this is a need.

I think that might just be the font we're using. If it doesn't have the characters, it's probably falling back.

I filed bug 787099 for the missing characters in the font (comment 2). I also found another issue that I suspect is related to "exotic" characters, which I field in bug 787098.

Since this seems better suited to be a tracking bug, I was then going to file a separate bug related to the space issue. But it seems that spaces in names are supported just fine. (I was able to add my middle initial by putting a space in my first name.)
