I have two email accounts: one at well.com, and the other at netscape.com.  I
have set up both mail accounts inside the same Mozilla user profile.  

When the Mail reader window is the forground window:
When I view the Inbox at my well.com account and open a mail compose window, the
window *correctly* assumes the From line should contain my well.com mail address.  

When I view the Inbox at my netscape.com account and open a mail compose window,
the window *correctly* assumes the From line should contain my netscape.com mail
address.

When the Broswser window is the forground window:
When I open a mail compose window, the assumption is that the From address is my
well.com regardless of which mailbox is selected in the Mail reader window
(which is now at the bottom of the window stack).

This is confusing because when I'm working from home, I want to have all emails
default to my netscape.com address.  The clue is that the netscape.com mailbox
is currently selected even though that window is not at the top of the window stack.

It would be acceptable to have the mail compose window select the "default" mail
account:
-when the mail window is not open
-when a newsgroup, rather than a mail account, is selected
-when a local folder is selected

Other than those cases, the Mail compose window should do a better job of
understanding what functions I'm trying to perform.

three-pane?

All you have to do is click on the menu item File->New->Message or press Ctrl+M
and you can launch a compose window. I am testing the fix for this and will
attach the patch.

Oops.  I was a little premature.  Reopening the bug.

What's fixed is hitting Control-M to open a new mail compose window.

What's still broken is forwarding a web page from:

It appears to choose the correct identity when a mail account is selected with
Mail and the Browser open. It also uses the default account if a Local Folders
folder is selected or if only the Browser is open. Performed the following in
the browser when checking:

1. File|New|Message
2. Ctrl+M
3. Send Page
4. Send Link

Question: Is it ok for a news identity to be used?
If a newsgroup is selected in Mail, with Mail and Browser open: 
- File|New|Message or Ctrl+M, uses the identity from the news account for the
From area and addresses the message to the newsgroup.
- File|Send Page and File|Send Link, uses the identity from the news account for
the From area only.

Reopening the bug.

I found another case where a mail compose window does not correctly inherit the
mail account selected in the mail window.  The case is in mailto: links.  

Same setup:  
Select the work related mail account
Change focus to a window with a mailto: URL (like this bug :-) )
The new window will have the home related account in the From field.
It should have the work related account in the From field.

Answering one of nbaca's questions, I don't think it should obey this for news.
 I keep getting hit by this and it's really annoying.  I happen to be reading a
newsgroup, do some browsing, and want to send a mail or a page while browsing
and it comes up with my news identity preselected with the current newsgroup I'm
reading in the To field.  I don't think it should do this.  99% of the time it's
not what I want. I filed http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=105838 to
change this.
