the above link does nothing when clicked on. I'm using 2001052321 on linux. ns 4.7x also doesn't load it. I dunno if this is a plugin thing, but I don't know where else to put it.

I think this type of url is supposed to be handed off to realplayer. I bet mac and windows mozilla already do this, through internet config or the registry. I think I read that someone implemented such a thing on those platforms. I think linux may have gotten left behind. So no, I don't think this depends on 68406.
The rtsp protocol _is_ supposed to be handed off to realplayer or the like. Fixing bug 68406 would allow this to be fixed trivially. Until then, the lack of a platform protocol handler database on Linux will likely make this hard to do. That said, on Windows we apparently _do_ pass off these urls to realplayer if it's installed (if it is not, the usual "unknown protocol" alert comes up). status to NEW and adding pp keyword.

Bug 33282 has a nearly-working patch that allows registration of URI schemes via prefs on Unix. Once that's done, fixing this bug will be a matter of setting a pref.
