Build ID: 20130329030352
Steps to reproduce:
the preview window opens even though i have turned off with F8.
Actual results:
after repeated selection of F8 the window disappears until the next start!
Expected results:
how long does the developers ignore this old, old bug?
or better: take the F8 funktion away from Thunderbird, anyway if the system does what it wants
I feel ridiculed as user...

f.mueglich (reporter), we need your help to resolve this problem report.
We've had a few similar reports in the past, but almost none could be reproduced, so I've just closed some of them until further evidence.
1) do you still see this bug on current release version, TB 17.0.8? Pls verify version from Menu > Help > About Thunderbird
2) if yes, do you see this bug when running and restarting TB in Safe-Mode: Help > Restart with Addons disabled?
3) if yes, can you provide detailed steps and all potentially relevant conditions to reproduce this bug? We need numbered steps outlining each click en detail.
4) on which OS'es do you see this bug?
5) are you using CCleaner? (bug 518345 comment 72)
(In reply to f.mueglich from comment #0)
> how long does the developers ignore this old, old bug?
- 3 years for oldest of related bugs isn't very long for TB (unfortunately)
- it wasn't ignored, there were several attempts to fix it, e.g. bug 518345 as early as 2010.
- nobody can fix it if he/she cannot reproduce it - that's the main problem about these bugs, they don't come with reliable steps

I agree it's annoying, but I've seen many things in TB which are far more annoying and damaging than this little nuisance which can be worked around with pressing F8 just once per session if I understand comment 0 correctly... There are other bugs out there, so this is not the only one :)

5) yes and i removed the "delete markers" from Thunderbird in Ccleaner - now it works sucessfully
i don't know, what happens with the Ccleaner markers, something goes wrong, nobody knows - is the mistake from Ccleaner or a bug in Thunderbird ????
