Judging from the screenshots, this may be related to bug 859276.
creepy - I still can't get to either link. "Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at home6.swipnet.se." if it looks like bug 927091 then do the dupe :)
"creepy - I still can't get to either link." Does this help (direct links)..? http://home6.swipnet.se/~w-62298/pics/TB_graph_glitch.png http://home6.swipnet.se/~w-62298/pics/TB_graph_glitch_2.png "Niclas, Describe in the problem in words please. And graphics should be attached to the bug, not via URL. Find "Add an attachment" in the bug form" Sorry, I made that in a big hurry... But if "someone" can see the screenshots, they might tell more than many words!(?). The conclusion is a misrendered progress bar (animation) that I have never seen in Thunderbird before. Best regards Niclas

it might, but at this point I'm not going to bother - because it is more appropriate that the image be attached to the bug as requested.

As requested..!
(In reply to Wayne Mery (:wsmwk) from comment #5) > if it looks like bug 927091 then do the dupe :) It's a bit different. In Windows Classic and High-Contrast desktop themes, the "ghost" progress bar appears to the left of the actual progress-bar area. With the desktop theme Niclas is using, it appears that there is a ghost progress bar as a single (1px? 2px?) line below the actual progress bar. Either way, parts of the progress bar seem to be shifted on initialization, thus fixing bug 859276 may also fix the bug seen here with that different desktop theme.
(In reply to Niclas Eriksson from comment #6) > The conclusion is a misrendered progress bar (animation) > that I have never seen in Thunderbird before. So, the "real" progress bar is animated, going from left to right in circles, whereas the "ghost" below it is rather static and only changes when the status bar text is updated, or do you see something different?

"So, the "real" progress bar is animated, going from left to right in circles" Well not in "circles" rather cycles, it repeats moving from the left to the right - if you know what I mean... The "ghost" progress bar 1px of size, is static as shown on my screenshots. One vertical "line" with two or three horizontal "ghosts" mostly (1px) (pic.1). But sometimes with half a dozen horizontal "ghosts" (1px) (pic.2). I hope the info is to some help, and forgive me for my English. My native language is Swedish...

Another "version" (new) of the bug, regarding the misrendered progress bar.

And another "version"...

Yet another "version"...
Thanks. I think what happens is very similar to bug 859276: A slightly different position of the progress bar is assumed for some reason when updating the status bar, which seems to depend on the selected desktop theme. In your case, this is just one pixel underneath the intended location of the progress bar, whereas it is several pixels to the left for the Windows Classic theme. The spinning/circling/cycling progress bar appears in its "correct" location as long as the status bar isn't updated, which in your cases overwrites most of the shifted status bar, thus leaving just the one-line "ghost" underneath it. I'll mark your bug report as dependent on the Core bug, given that it's not entirely clear whether or not it's indeed the same issue. Once bug 859276 is fixed, you can retest if it's also fixed with your desktop theme.
Depends on: 859276
"Once bug 859276 is fixed, you can retest if it's also fixed with your desktop theme." I'll do so and report the result here. I have used Thunderbird for many years and this is the first time that I have seen a "graphical" glitch. Likewise I have used Firefox for many years but not reported any bugs, even though Firefox had some crashing problems some years ago... Hopefully Wayne Mery will eventually forgive me for my novice bug-reporting issues..!
> Hopefully Wayne Mery will eventually forgive me for my novice bug-reporting > issues..! Most certainly. We all have learning curves. And you learnd and improved several notches https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Bug_writing_guidelines and similar items are great references
I see the misaligned progress bar too. It looks like the bar is being drawn about 60px too far left. Part of it is outside the rectangle bar frame.
John, which operating system/version and desktop theme are you using?
Flags: needinfo?(jpage)
tBird 24.1.0 and Windows 7, Classic theme, customized a bit to change colors.

Ok, so your comment #18 describes what's seen in bug 859276 with Windows Classic.

Do you still see this in version 31?
Severity: normal → minor

I would be surprised if not, given that bug 859276 persists and those issues are likely related.

Since the summer of 2014 I have changed to using Windows 7, for security reasons..! So now I can't really supply any more information (sadly). Windows XP is no retired regarding my computer...

When sending an email in TB Daily in Windows 10 in High Contrast Black color scheme, progress bar starts off as bright blue so progress is never shown as progress bar updates its progress as bright blue as well. Maybe it should start off as white so that the light blue progress would show up better.

Severity: minor → S4
