Take the patches from bug 942995 and 942799 and enable APZC. The initial rendering of the gallery app is wrong. Switching to landscape and back to portrait (may have to do it a couple of times) fixes the problem.
Actually, the fact that we have to go to landscape twice and return to portrait to get it to the "correct" size is probably wrong in itself? It does stabilize after the second time.

This only happens the first time the gallery app is run after restart. Killing it in the card review and running it again gets it to be the correct size right away.
Summary: Gallery app initial size is wrong under APZC → Gallery app initial size is wrong under APZC after restart
Is what way is the initial rendering wrong? I see rows of images, 3 per row, the same thing I see when I return to the app later.
Interesting - I can't reproduce this. How old/new is your build? I pulled on Wednesday and then I have the two patches in question applied on top of that.
Same here - but I'm on Unagi. Perhaps there is a race condition somewhere? Either way, once those two patches land, I'm sure we'll get a lot of testing, and it will either come back or if I'm the only one, great.
I describe a step to reproduce it on any apps in bug 943831.
