User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:41.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/41.0 Build ID: 20150917150946 Steps to reproduce: Note incoming mail because of lower right "new mail" icon in Widows 7. Read new email. New Mail incoming icon remains in lower right icons. Doesn't go away until you click on it and then it disappears. This is annoying and has been going on for years. It's about time someone fixed this bug. Actual results: Note incoming mail because of lower right "new mail" icon in Widows 7. Read new email. New Mail incoming icon remains in lower right icons. Hi! I was wondering if there is any progress on this bug. The icon comes up if there is new mail but it isn't removed when all mail in the inbox is read. To remove it you have to do either of 3 things: - click the icon - change to another folder within your mailbox - manually sync the inbox folder through the "fetch mail" button Seems to me as if the event triggering the removal of that icon is the sync of the inbox folder when instead it should be the change of the read/unread-status of a message. The icon should be removed when the last unread item in the inbox is marked read. Everything else is just wrong.....

Perhaps (i don't know) an important addition: I'm using Thunderbird 52.3 on Windows. The bug has been there forever in the Windows version of Thunderbird; don't know about other versions for Linux etc. ...

Do you still see this issue when using a current version?

I have not been using defective crapware for years. I'll install and check it when i'm home tonight and report back.

Just installed Thunderbird, bug is still there, just as I described 2 years ago. Reading the last unread e-mail does not remove the tray icon. No matter if you open the message by doubleclick or in the preview pane or just mark it read without opening it, the icon stays ins place. If you open another directory or click the icon or click manual sync, the icon disappears.
All in all: still crapware, still not the quality I expect from an email client. Immediately uninstalled that shithole again.

There are several possibles: bug 303421, bug 272328, bug 222068
Or are they all the same?

Yes, they are all the same. This is what happens when bugs are ignored for two decades.
