Steps to reproduce:

Please enable Notes field for a record in Address Book (Contacts):
1. To supports complex formatting, embedded files and pictures;
2. To be saved in OpenDocument format (optional); and
3. To use LibreOffice Writer / LibreOfficeKit (optional).

This will also enable the importing of Outlook PST files.

Ovari, that sounds like a nice idea to me.

However, I think it's way beyond the current manpower of the volunteer team maintaining TB.
The whole AB needs a complete overhaul, because the internal/conceptual design is inadequate.

If implemented please add an option to keep using plain text for users who prefer Thunderbird's current behaviour:

• either a global pref
• or better yet: a text-html-switch as proposed for emails in bug 140800

Given Thunderbird's common core with Firefox, formatted text in the notes field would probably be HTML rather than in LibreOffice/OpenDocument format. Therefore (and for the "1 bug = 1 issue" rule) maybe the scope of this bug should be narrowed down to item 1 ?

Expected results:
An HTML/Markdown editor to allow for styling text.
Outlook has this and the lack of this feature in Tbird is the one feature preventing my clients from switching.
