After a short delay, hovering over a bookmark should bring up a tooltip
containing the text of the description field from the bookmark's properties.  

Since I am in the habit of documenting my bookmarks, this would help me remember
why I bookmarked some of the more obscure sites I have. (eg. "Provincial
requirements for third party nominee registered product administration") 
Likewise, I leave notes about syntax and usage in the "shortcut" bookmarks I've
created for myself and often share with others. (eg. "findbyname [last, first]
(case sensitive!)")


Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Enter text into the description field of any bookmark.
2. Mouseover the bookmark anywhere it is visible within Mozilla.
3. Wait a moment.

Actual Results:  Nothing happens.

Expected Results:  The text of the description field from the bookmark's
properties should appear in a tooltip.

NOTE: This bug is in direct conflict with bug 23460, bug 42136 and bug 129832

This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 62683 which in turn has been
marked as a duplicate of bug 23460.  However,  I can find no mention in bug
23460 of the idea of using the description field for bookmark tooltips!

Why was this and bug 62683 resolved as duplicates?

Ian, from the dicussion in bug 23460, it seems that tooltips (thankfully I'd
say) have been rejected. This is why your bug was duplicated against that bug,
regardless of the fact that you suggest popping up the description, instead of
the url. 
Imo, the correct resolution for your bug should be wontfix,  But the resolution
is a minor problem, considering the volume of the bugs needing triaging.

I think displaying the description field onMouseOver would cause more users to
use the description field. I would also suggest to display the full page title
too if the title is to long to be displayed in the first place.

All together: In my opinion this would a convenient feature.

This would be great for me because I use bookmarks to manage my bugs, and I can
only read the first 5 words of the description in the sidebar without making 
the sidebar extremely large.

Why would you mark this WONTFIX? Actually, the status bar is NO PLACE for the 
bookmark titles IMHO. It should be in a tooltip (But only - imho in Bookmark 
Manager and the Sidebar).

Currently, the only way to reach a bookmark's description is by checking its
properties in the bookmarks manager.

Instead of popups, I'd be happy with a context menu like in the bookmarks
manager. (bug 50504)

I did make a special effort to add the description.  I would like to be able to
see it again without having to open the properties for the bookmark. The vast
majority of bookmarks will not have a description so I don't think it would be
that bothersome to have the occasional tooltip pop up.

I use the discription field to remind me of why I created the bookmark ("Study
quotes from Tim's thesis!") or how to use a "custom keyword" ("findbyname [last,
first] (case sensitive!)").  These are things I want presented in a tooltip to
REMIND me.  I suspect I'd rarely, if ever, use the description field as a
"resource" to store info to be LOOKED UP later.

I agree this is not a dupe (certainly not of bug 23460, anyway). And it would be
nice to have. Whoever implements it, please think of keyboard users - the
tooltip should display even if you only navigate the menu with the keyboard.

If bug 122095 (tooltips on menu items in general) is reopened as I believe it
should be, this bug should probably be dependent on it.

As I don't dare to reopen bug 122095, adding dependencies here. Tooltips for
menu items would be very annoying without fixing bug 113536 and bug 45522. But
when theses are fixed, I'd love to see this RFE implemented.

The only mention of the description field in bug 23460 is my response to an earlier attempt to dupe this bug against that one.

Other than my protestations, there is no other mention of the description field in that bug.  Bug 23460 asks that on mouseover the URL of the bookmark be shown in the status bar.
