I am referring to the pop-up window that prompts the master password when "Use a master password" is set in about:preferences#privacy. This feature is very very far from having the kind of polish the rest of the UI has. It looks like whenever something somewhere (in a background tab maybe) needs a password, the prompt appears interrupting whatever the user is doing without providing any context about what requires a password (and in what tab). This is a bad experience and encourages the user to type the password to whatever prompts to do it without context or justification, which is a bad and unsafe habit. There are plenty of ways this could be improved, but at the minimum only showing the password prompt when a tab that needs a password is in the foreground would certainly help with giving some context (and reduce the interruptions).
Pick your dupe: bug 432020 bug 445866 (same root cause) bug 499556 bug 644878 bug 657871 bug 663595 bug 674483 bug 1149500 bug 1149505 bug 1203277 or even bug 1223185 bug 1251231 bug 1376422 bug 1376425 I'm not aware of anyone working on master password, which probably explains why there are so many similar bugs on file.
