forgive my ignorance but is there anything that i can or should do to help fix this (as a normal user, that is)
a few points, not sure they help:
1. WB hasn't been updated or reconfigured when this started happening
2. the firefox executable has been excluded by me from skinning since it used to have issues (which i don't blame FF for; and i do run the browser maximized so i don't really care) [which is probably all irrelevant since the hook just runs for all processes]
3. the only reason i actually noticed is that i had the unsent crash report notification, it doesn't seem to affect normal operation for me
4. i can confirm that the crash is not reproducible with WB unloaded.
We can try two avenues:
1) Blocklisting the DLL (then presumably all users would lose the ability to skin Firefox, but nobody would crash);
2) Reaching out to the WindowBlinds developers and they might be able to fix the issue.

Adam, do you have contacts at Stardock? Could you try to contact them?

When I tried WindowBlinds I couldn't reproduce any crash. Are you already using the latest version of WindowBlinds or could you try making an update?

im on the latest beta version actually, but i have been on that for a while; before it started happening.

i am, but crashes stopped happening around the end of January.
as such i can't really tell a thing about the linked bug either.

do you still need the about:supports data?
the crashes didn't really affect browser behavior iirc. maybe the start time was longer when they were happening but i also have a bunch of tabs so i never really tried to pinpoint the issue; can't really do that anymore either as it stopped happening.

I'd still like to see the about:support data. It could be that WebRender just got disabled as a result of the crashes and you ended up with a slower/different graphics stack being used.

well. that was a good point. after deleting gfx.webrender.all.qualified (which i don't know if that was right since i last used about:config when it had a (reset to default) option i "generated" new crash reports, i think these belong in the new bug tho.

Thanks! So yes, it looks like the crash still happens on startup - the GPU process crashes four times, and then it auto-disables as a result and you end up with the Basic (unaccelerated) compositor. The delay on startup is likely due to the GPU process trying to start up and failing a bunch of times, and you'll get degraded graphics performance generally although visually everything should still look correct.

So the good news is that our fallback path works well, in that you didn't really notice that you were falling back to basic compositing :) The bad news obviously is that this crash is still a problem, it just changed slightly so that the crash signature is no longer the one on this bug. We can use the new bug 1544435 to track it.
