User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.15; rv:112.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/112.0
Steps to reproduce:
- Use unified view
- Set up several IMAP accounts
- In "account settings", set the accounts to archive to a local folder (one per account)
- Archive messages
Actual results:
The messages are properly archived in the respective accounts' archive folders (as seen via the "all folders" view).
However, when displaying the sub-folders of the unified archive folder, most are just called "local folders" and do not display any messages when selected.
Expected results:
The sub-folders of the unified archive folder should be named after the account (as all sub-folders in the unified view), and should display archives messages when selected.
This worked for years without changes, all the way until the update to 112 (did not work from beta 1 through 7).

Anyone able to reproduce this? This still applies to 113.
Not sure whether this was the case before, but now I see emails (seemingly all those archived for 2023) when I select the "Archives" unified folder; however, the sub-folders still aren't named properly and don't display any messages.

Here I cannot archive from a IMAP account to local folders at all. Below "local Folders", the subfolder with "Archive" and a subfolder with the year (e.g. 2023) is created, but the message is not moved there. The created folders (Archive/2023) cannot be deleted anymore.

There's a good chance this'll be fixed in bug 1822815.

This is partially fixed in 114. The messages display properly, however the names of folders do not. Folder archives located in local folders are all called "local folders" instead of using the name of the account in question.

Side note, the number of messages does not align. The unified "Archive" folder only show archived messages for the current year (that's fine), and the total count of messages for that folder is just the messages for the current year (ok). However, when displaying subfolders (for each account), the number of messages displayed is that of all years combined. Since the subsequent "year folders" are limited to the current year, we get the information about the number of message for that year one level down, but it feels a bit illogical, as it may give the appearance that some messages are missing.

Can you go into the properties of the top Archives folder, click to choose the folders to search, and report which folders are checked? Here's what mine looks like.
Thanks. Adding folders did make me realise i could have more than the current year. Though it did require manually clicking on close to 200 folders one by one -- maybe there's a better way. Not all the numbers display, but I'm sure it'll work.
Of course, that doesn't change the label of the folders, they're all still called "Local Folders", which is neither the name of the account, nor the name of the local folder where the archive actually is.

Any new subfolders should be automatically added now, so hopefully you won't have to deal with that again. As for why they're all named Local Folders, I have no idea!
That's good to know indeed. As for the names, well, maybe something to look into at some point, in line with the issue's severity..

ai34w1, what is your current state when using beta 116?

Partially working. All sub-folders of "archive" are still called "local folders", instead of bearing the name of the account in question. Additionally, while four out of five have the proper yearly subdivisions, one lists the number of messages archived, but not does display messages nor yearly folders. I don't think there is any underlying different between that account and others that would explain this difference..

Just to flag that this is still applicable to v117 and to the new v118.

Blacked-out parts are the names of the accounts, confirming that, in the Unified Folders, these names display properly for Inbox and Sent folders, and also Drafts, Junk, and Deleted. However, they do not display properly for Archives.

Does removing "smart mailboxes" help?
open the troubleshooting information on the help menu.
Click the show profile button
Close Thunderbird
Open the "mail" folder in the file manager window that opened.
Move (not delete) the folder named "smart mailboxes" out of the profile
Restart Thunderbird.

In v118, removing smart mailbox does not solve the issue.
It did something minor and not useful: somehow, I now have one empty sub-folder, in the Archives unified folder, bearing the name of one of my email accounts (you see it blacked out in the picture).

The archived emails of that accounts are not found in that properly named sub-folder, but in the one underneath it, which still reads as "Local Folders", as for all other accounts.

Empty as in it doesn't have a message count?
And nothing is in the message list if you click on that subfolder?

Correct, no message count (as you can see in the picture) and no messages in that subfolder.
Since then, I created a new email account. That one also shows as an empty folder with the proper account name -- no message count, no messages in the subfolder. So I now have two empty subfolders with no messages, and six subfolders called "Local Folders".
When I archive an email from that new account, it goes (like for the others email accounts) in one of the subfolders called "Local Folders" where you see a message count.
This is now in v119.b02.

Can't test right now. Still stuck on v120 because of the primary password window issue. Once that's fixed, I'll report on this.

Still not working under 121.0b6. Seeing the same as before: under "Archives", there are two folders with names of actual email accounts, but they are empty, and then a number of folders all called "Local Folders" matching my various email accounts in all but the name.
