The behavior of regular folders changed significantly from 102 to 115.
In 102, my own folders (although technically being subfolders of the inbox) are shown independently in a separate top-level account entry (see 102.png).
In 115, my folders are shown as subfolders of the (unified) inbox (see 115.png).
The difference is more than just visual though: When I select the global inbox in 115, I see all emails of all accounts because my folders are classified as subfolders of the inbox and thus selected in the "smart inbox", as can be seen in the properties (36 folders are selected for search).
In 102 however, my folders are not treated as subfolders and therefore, only emails that are actually/directly in the inbox for each account are shown. 2 folders are selected for search, which matches the 2 accounts I added to Thunderbird.

This is an intentional change in behaviour. Folders inside the inbox are now considered part of the inbox in the unified folders view. You can choose not to include them using the folder properties window.

As a user of the unified inbox feature, I want to see all emails of the inbox folders when I select "Inbox", not all mails across all of my account.
As an email user, I often do not have control over whether IMAP folders can be created toplevel or as a subfolder of the inbox.
In addition to that, understanding the issue and finding the properties and realizing that the properties can be used to work around it cannot be expected from an average user. But even if someone does, the UI does not allow doing this without significant effort.

Could you check how your folders are structured and organized when you use the "All Folder" modes?

In 102 all folders (including Drafts, Sent etc) are shown at the same level as the Inbox.
In 115 all folders (including Drafts, Sent etc) are shown as children of the Inbox.

If it's a gmail (hosted) account? For those the 3pane fakes moving the special folders to top level but you can see they are under [Gmail] in many other places in the UI... (like when selecting move or copy)

lolz, then as a software developer like you would know :-), please tell us the rest of the troubleshooting details that are missing:
- what the email provider is then :-) enquiring minds want to know and all that :-)
- same issue in Thunderbird Troubleshoot mode? in order to rule out add-ons (i'm 99% sure that add-ons are not the issue but you never know)
- any other details like your antivirus, firewall, etc if any or any other things that might interfere with Thunderbird (again i doubt this is the problem but you never know :-) !) so we can spare :-) us all a further round of questions and get to a set of steps to reproduce.

The email provider is Netcup (https://www.netcup.de/). I could provide a demo email account temporarily if needed.
The same happens in safe-mode, I don't even have any add-ons installed.
Not sure how an antivirus, firewall etc would interfere with the folder list display hierarchy in Thunderbird, but nothing special is running on my machine, it's a pretty basic Mac setup.

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1425638 is also global inbox - don't know if it is related.
Giacomo, are you still using global inbox?

I'm not sure to have clearly understood the issue, maybe because I've never used "Unified Folders" , but I've just enabled its view within in my TB 115.3.1 under macos Ventura 13.5.2 (cfr. picture "tb115_3_1.png") and in my case:
- concerning mail accounts,
- 14 POP accounts feed new messages into my Local Folders' Inbox (Italian "Posta in arrivo" under "Cartelle Locali") ,
- 4 POP accounts have their own Inbox ,
- 3 IMAP accounts (ending in "IMAP" or "d.com" in the picture),
- a number of RSS subscriptions;
- TB's won't allow me to create subfolders of any Inbox (neither POP, nor IMAP) under any view, therefore not under "Unified Folders" view (lower one in picture, Italian "Cartelle unificate") ;
- TB's "normal" (upper one in picture, Italian "Tutte le cartelle") seems quite similar to its "Unified Folders" view (and shows identical structure for Local Folders, here expandend only under "Unified Folders" view )
- in "Unified Folders" view, any new message (either to POP or IMAP account) appears only in its own target Inbox, whereas the "unified inbox" (cfr. pciture, "Posta in arrivo" immediately below the "Cartelle Unificate" header).
Maybe I'm missing something in order to reproduce conditions of comment 0.

Can I ask what's the usefulness of me having to re-verify this every year with nothing else visibly happening in this bug to address the issue? That seems like wasted effort.
