It would be really really really really neat if you could mark more than one
bookmark folder for placement in the customizable toolbars. IE, I'd really
really like to have my toolbars look like:

[File Edit Menus] [NewsSites Search/more bookmark folders that work like menus]
["cd .."/more functional scriptlet bookmarks] [nav buttons] [URL bar]

The gives me one row of "menus", real and bookmark folders, and another row of
functional stuff. This is my ideal browser setup, and phoenix is obscenely close
to letting me do it. I would guess many other users would like more than one
measly row of bookmarks, or to split their bookmarks too.

See also Mozilla bug 184503 which is about Mozilla missing the 4.x UI that let
you select which folder was used for the Personal Toolbar.
OK, I missed it, but there's already UI for setting the single "bookmarks
toolbar folder". It's in the view menu, where it doesn't belong. Maybe this for
the UI?

Change "Set as" to "Mark for toolbar use" or something like that, which would
make a new object available in the customize toolbar window. Probably better to
show it by default at first so the user can see the result. This should change
the icon in the bookmarks manager to something slightly different to indicate
the folder has this property. Going back to view->"Mark for toolbar use" would
uncheck the property, change the icon to normal, remove it from the customize
toolbar choices, and hide it if it's currently shown.
Won't fix. Current xul templates don't allow to do this.
I, for myself don't see the interest of doing so, since you can move all the
folders you want into the personal bookmarks toolbar.

The "interest" is that you can't break them up if they're all on the one
personal toolbar. I really would like to have my UI like this:

File Edit View ... [PT with one-click access to sites I commonly access]
[PT with scriptlets] Back Forward Reload Location Bar

Is there a way to easily edit the XUL manually, to insert javascript: links?

It'd have to be something in my profile, so I didn't have to do it again every
day when I install a new build.

Now that "panels" in Firebird take the form of bookmarks, I think it is even
more crucial to be able to place "bookmarks" in more than one place.

Who wants all their panels (informational), scriptlets (functional), and
bookmarks (navagational) controls all jammed together with no way to differentiate?

Reopening due to panels development.

So basically this is a request to add shortcuts to bookmark folders (also to items?) as buttons to the toolbars.
Say rather a request to be able to have a toolbar display the contents of a single folder, just like the current bookmark folder displays the contents of a specific folder.
The ability to have 3 toolbars, each showing the contents of folder X.
Would be nice if you could place bookmarks on every empty spot: on your menu bar AND on the navigation bar AND on the bookmarks toolbar AND on the status bar. Would be useful especially on wide screens with all that superfluous empty space, so you don't need to make a choice anymore between the most important bookmarks and bookmarklets but you can place them all on your toolbars ready to click.

Not a blocker, in any case. not something we're going to have any time for in the 3.1 cycle, so not setting wanted.

Bug 451915 - move Firefox/Places bugs to Firefox/Bookmarks and History. Remove all bugspam from this move by filtering for the string "places-to-b-and-h".

In Thunderbird 3.0b, you do that as follows:
Tools | Message Filters
Make sure the correct account is selected. Click "New"
Conditions: Body contains places-to-b-and-h
Change the action to "Delete Message".
Select "Manually Run" from the dropdown at the top.
Click OK.

Select the filter in the list, make sure "Inbox" is selected at the bottom, and click "Run Now". This should delete all the bugspam. You can then delete the filter.

No Progress in 9 Years. Hooray =)
it should not be hard to make an add-on that adds another bookmarks view using smart queries, but we don't plan to add that as a core feature.
