As a part of the deprecation of the old sidebar, we want to start with flipping sidebar.revamp to true in Nightly 143, so we can find any major issues we would like to track ahead of a broader deprecation effort.
Hi folks,
I wanted to put this on the release management team radar early. We are deprecating the old sidebar and will start by enabling it for new profiles in Nightly 143. I know that we don't have a dedicated section for something like this in Nightly release notes, but it feels like maybe "New" section might work to communicate the change proactively. Please let me know if you have concerns about this approach, would suggest a different section of the release notes, etc.
Release Note Request (optional, but appreciated)
[Why is this notable]: We are starting to deprecate the old sidebar (sidebar.revamp = false) starting version 143. Initially, we will limit the change to flipping the preference to true by default in Nightly. This will only affect new profiles, but we want to ensure it's proactively communicated to Nightly users ahead of time, possibly even starting with Nightly 142.

Hi Katie,
Can I please ask your help with the suggested wording on this change for Nightly release notes? The nature of the change is that new profiles on Nightly (starting from release 143) will now get the new sidebar (sidebar.revamp = true) enabled by default.
Here's an example of recent Nightly release notes.

Hi Ania - I think this should work for the release note.
The updated Firefox sidebar is now on by default for new Nightly profiles. It provides quick access to the tools of your choice, like bookmarks, history, and AI chatbots. Use the settings gear at the bottom of the sidebar to add and remove tools, try vertical tabs, and move the sidebar.

Release Note Request for Nightly 149 notes only
[Why is this notable]: We are switching all users who have previously used the old sidebar (sidebar.revamp = false) to the new sidebar.
[Affects Firefox for Android]: No

Please note that this change is not riding the 149 train and will remain in Nightly only for a while. Please see more details here

Added to the Fx148 nightly release notes, please allow 30 minutes for the site to update.
The nightly-only note will be removed after three cycles or when it is enabled by default, whichever comes earlier.
Thank you so much, Donal!
If that's not too much to ask, can we please also add this note to Firefox 149 Nightly when it becomes available?

No problem Ania, sorry my comment wasn't clear.
We will keep the note in all nightly versions for three cycles, i.e. 148 - 150, unless it is enabled before then.
You can see some examples in the current Fx148 nightly release notes of nightly notes from previous versions

Removing from the nightly-only release notes, this has been carried over for 3 nightly releases.
When this is enabled for a release, a release note can be nominated on that bug.
