Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.5) Gecko/20031007 Firebird/0.7
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.5) Gecko/20031007 Firebird/0.7

When using multiple mail accounts, which are on different ports, the second or
more news account does not respect it's port number and uses the default.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Meanwhile, Thunderbird refuses to set up multiple news accounts with the same
server. I was able to work round it by manually editing prefs.js, but imo this
is not a viable solution.

The account manager seems quite messed up :-(
consolidating all the TB bugs for the issues as in Bug 41929 and Bug 78357/Bug 238583

As the TB bugs of this area are all collected as dupes here there should be some dependency set to the bugs mentioned in comment 2.

The number of people likely to be effected by this is tiny; so it's not something we'd block a release on. It'd certainly be nice to see a fix for, so marking wanted-thunderbird3+.

While this is a problem that it would be nice to see a fix for, it's not so important that drivers is going to actively be pushing it for tb3. Setting as wanted- as per the new driving guidelines: <https://wiki.mozilla.org/Thunderbird:Release_Driving>.

Why should this limited to "different ports"?
I see this as a serious issue. Being behind restrictive firewall(proxy) and having to setup tunnels with port forwarding to localhost makes thunderbird unusable for more than one tunneled account. After hand-editing settings there is still problem with password manager asking you all the time for passwords.

What is different here compared to bug 238583? There seems to be more context/discussion in that bug. Can we dupe it?
