User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.5) Gecko/20031007 Firebird/0.7 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040206 Firefox/0.8 The “add to bookmarks” cannot identify Trade Mark icon at the first time when the website address has an specific icon (eg. "CNN" for http://www.cnn.com). However, if the user open the website again, the icon is updated. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open “www.cnn.com” on Mozilla Firefox0.8 browser. 2. Save the bookmark with Bookmarks-> Add to Bookmarks 3. Notice the icon on the bookmark is a blank sheet 4. Open another Mozilla Firefox0.8 browser and visit "www.cnn.com" again 5. Notice the icon is updated as "CNN" Actual Results: The icon on the bookmark is not identified at the first time "Add to Bookmarks" Expected Results: The icon on the bookmark is identified at the first time "Add to Bookmarks"
this is a duplicate, search on "favicon" to find the original.
Searched the database for the similar ones. It is a kind of different problem from the previous ones. While others says wrong favicons or icon lost, this one refers to blank-sheet icon first, then refresh(bring up the page with another browser) to get the desired one.
I searched for 'bookmark icon firefox' and didn't find a dup, so confirming.

Summary: Add to bookmarks” cannot identify address Trade Mark icon at the first time → "Add to Bookmarks" leaves out favicon
I can reproduce on Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7b) Gecko/20040327 Firefox/0.8.0+
-> me; especially annoying is when you drag a site's favicon down to the bookmarks toolbar, only for it to not get a favicon there.

WFM in builds with places. Mark as INVALID or FIXED?
Flags: blocking1.9a1?
(In reply to comment #15) > WFM in builds with places. Mark as INVALID or FIXED? > Defenitly NOT WFM using Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.9a1) Gecko/20060416 Firefox/3.0a1 ID:2006041701 [cairo]
Peter when doesn't it work, I tried CTRL+D and bookmarks->bookmark this page, and both worked fine. Can't try right click on link->bookmark this link since it seems broken. Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9a1) Gecko/20060416 Firefox/3.0a1 (cairo build)
Also WFM via the star button or whatever its called now
repro: Open a link from a page and bookmark it (doesn't matter how). Open the bookmarks menu (or Places) and notice there's just the default icon The icon is only added if you open the bookmarked page from the bookmark itself.
Peter: still WFM, no matter how I add the bookmark the icon is always saved. No default blank icon.

I can reproduce this in Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1b2) Gecko/20060823 BonEcho/2.0b2, even with Live Bookmarks. Doesn't this bug cover the same thing for Live Bookmarks?
This is still present in Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X; en-US; rv:1.8.1.1) Gecko/20061204 Firefox/2.0.0.1. It's not terribly inconvenient, but it seems like it should be fixable given that the favicon is already loaded in the address bar and on the title of the tab. Weird that it works for Kurt though and not other people using 3.0 alphas.
It worked while Places was enabled. Doesn't work any longer though. Should work again once Places is re enabled.
Confirmed with Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; pl; rv:1.8.1.3) Gecko/20070309 Firefox/2.0.0.3
The "reproduced/confirmed" comments are only needed when a bug is in the unconfirmed state. It is not the case here, this bug is perfectly reproducible and only fixed for now on trunk builds when/where Places is enabled.
Now that Places is back in trunk (and will be in Firefox 3), I think we can mark this WFM. Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9a9pre) Gecko/2007092904 Minefield/3.0a9pre

I'm using Firefox 10.0 Beta 2 and the bug still exists since a few major versions. Steps to reproduce: 1. Add this site to your bookmarks (if already delete the entry first). 2. Open your bookmark list and look at the favicon of the new entry. The favicon is the default dashed square but the symbol should be the green bug of this site. A workaround is to click on the bookmark entry and the favicon will be downloaded and stored automatically. But the favicon should already be stored if the bookmark is created.
(In reply to sworddragon2 from comment #34) > I'm using Firefox 10.0 Beta 2 and the bug still exists since a few major > versions. You should have filed a separate bug, posting in a closed bug is not that much useful. Btw, did you already try Safe mode? http://support.mozilla.org/kb/safe+mode
> You should have filed a separate bug, posting in a closed bug is not that much useful. I thought I can change the status and wanted to prevent that my new ticket gets the duplicate status. I have opened a new ticket now: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=715336
