Hi,

When you install Thunderbird in c:/program files/thunderbird then there is not
problem, but when you install Thunderbird in c:/program
files/mozilla.org/thunderbird then you get many error messages.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. old version is installed in c:/program files/mozilla.org/thunderbird
2. during installation select CUSTOM and browse to c:/program
files/mozilla.org/thunderbird.
3. finish installation

You will see the errors.

Actual Results:
I moved Thunderbird to c:/program files and then it is solved.

Expected Results:
normal installation in any directory I wish.

Error message when attempting to install TB2.
This also occurs when attempting to install Thunderbird 2.0 using the standard directory name but to a drive other than C, such as D:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\. This D drive directory already has Thunderbird 1.5 installed, so the custom install used to work correctly.

Unfortunately, after getting the error, Thunderbird 1.5 no longer works and it must be reinstalled.

Whatever this was (and without the error message, who knows?), it was with a completely different installer than the current one. Comment 3, while an error message, wasn't this, but a duplicate of one of the many mozMapi32.dll in use bugs. If the "this" in comment 4 was also "this mozMapi32.dll error" then it's a duplicate too; if not, and if it's still possible to reproduce and get the actual error message, please file it as a new bug with excruciatingly extensive detail.
