1. create an eml file with an image
2. use file open to open an eml file in browser
3. right click the image and select save image as
expected result: image is saved successfully
actural result: the whole eml file is saved instead of image part
btw, view image works properly
Yes, you can't save the attachments. There is Bug 270115 for viewing/saving.
Both are related to Bug 174692.

"file:///home/neoliu/work/test%20case/gif.eml?part=1.2&type=image/gif&filename=arrow.gif"

Why is this question even being asked? What does that url have to do with the
message? The message has a simple inline GIF attached to it; it displays
properly (excepting the issue with bug 174692).
This may be the same issue as bug 238417 -- that bug appears to be reporting the
same symptom for a message that's in a folder, rather than saved as a file, but
I couldn't reproduce the symptom in a folder. This bug's symptom, however, is
completely reproducible, for both text/plain (this bug) and text/html
(attachment 148174 [details]) messages, both multipart/mixed and multipart/related, and
whether the image part is declared 'inline' or 'attachment'.

Nian Liu(reporter of this bug), please list this bug in Bug 269826(meta bug) if
your problem is not DUP of any bugs listed in Bug 269826.

Nian Liu, you've added this bug to list in bug 269876 which is opened to try to
arange and clean-up many duplicate eml/rfc822 related bugs.
Which is your real problem of this bug? Comment #0? Or Comment #4?
Do you mean this bug is completely new problem on eml/rfc822?
Could you please explain me what is the difference from Bug 270115 and/or Bug
238417 which are already mentioned by ostgote and mike?

fix other bugs in the meta may fix this bug. however, only from what it appears,
i think it's a new bug.

Do you say your case is jpeg image in mail body of ".eml" file, not jpeg attachment
in ".eml" file nor jpeg image in attachmed message/rfc822 mail in ".eml" file?
If yes, do you mean image in HTML mail? Or inline displayed jpeg attachment?
Describe clearly on which jpeg image your problem occurs, please.
By the way, are there no already opened bug for similar problem to yours in list
of bug 269876?

Another question.
Is your problem "image is diplayed properly but unable to save"?
Or "image is not displayed and unable to save"?

Next questions.
(Q1) What is your Mozilla version(I don't think Thunderbird since you say
"Browser").
Open .eml from Mail&News is already implemented, according to .eml file support
of Thunderbird.
(Q2) Are there any difference between "Open .eml from Mozilla Browser" and "Open
.eml from Mozilla Mail&News?

Change 'eml' in summary to '.eml' for ease of search ('extremly' will hit).
Summary: can't save image in eml file when open eml file in browser → can't save image in '.eml' file when open '.eml' file in browser

to:
'can't save images contained in files saved in .eml format'
or something.

[Sorry for the spam beforehand]
I am going through bugs to test/verify/confirm in order to help (on Windows and Linux platforms). In the process, I often find really old bugs like this one that are fixed in newer versions of firefox/thunderbird, but I have no rights to change their status to fixed or verified. Also their original reporters/owners aren't around and I doubt other users in the CC list are available either. Who do I need to talk to?
Thanks in advance.

This bug is still *not* fixed on trunk. Still confirming bug for SeaMonkey 2.0 build ID 20090425001501, Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1b5pre) Gecko/20090425 SeaMonkey/2.0b1pre on WinXP.
The behavior now is the following (slightly changed from bug 174692 comment 16):
eml file opened locally per File-Open:
images are at first not shown (broken), do "View Image", you will see only the internal URL, do a reload, now you see the image, go back and press enter in the location bar to see the mail message with the image. Now you can do a "Save Image As" on it.
eml file opened remotely per link (e.g. bugzilla attachment):
images are at first not shown (broken), do "View Image", you will see it, go back and (do a reload if you don't see the image) the image displays inside the message. Now you can do a "Save Image As".
For both the saving seems to work but it will save the *whole* EML file with an image file extension added. So it has not saved the image. The display problem is bug 174692.
to comment 22: Firefox doesn't suffer from this bug, because it hasn't the MailNews code included. A normal FF cannot handle an EML natively, it just tries to open the file in the associated program (mostly your MUA). See also whiteboard for bug 174692.
to comment 23: If you have new information to a bug, a comment should be enough. People do listen, please be patient. Never change a bug status if you aren't really sure. To get bugzilla privileges see https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Confirming_unconfirmed_bugs#Get_the_Right_Privileges or https://wiki.mozilla.org/Thunderbird:Bug_Triage#Canconfirm_and_Editbugs_Privileges.

Opening .eml files in the browser is not intended behaviour.
