I've set the preference (Options | Advanced)
 [x] Show only display name for people in my address book.

But it's only working on the To: field in the envelope panel, not for the From:

I think it used to work for both, but I don't have an old installation handy to 
test with.

So I see this feature has been implemented as requested on the trunk: 
I'm seeing the expected tooltip on the From: address, with 1.6a1-1201.

Scott, could you explain the reason for the design?

Some customers and end users claim to change the behavior. They think this 'show only display name' feature/pref is broken or inconsistent. I think we can provide them with a better user experience by fixing this bug.

This appears to have been discussed in bug 240138 comment 14 et seq.  Cmt #29 there shows where the original patch was implemented to only collapse entries 
in the To list.

As I note in comment 8 here, the From address *is* getting collapsed; this behavior will be seen in version 2 when it's released, unless somebody stomps 
it back down again.  I believe the security concerns were addressed by adding the tooltip for collapsed names; see bug 251279 for a final detail here that needs to be addressed.

This bug is caused by Mnenhy and is still visible if you have enabled it's module Custom Headers. So it's not a core issue. Marking verified.
