User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.12) Gecko/20050915 Firefox/1.0.7
Build Identifier: Thunderbird 1.5 Beta 1

Occasionally Thunderbird stops being able to send mail during day for no reason.
It always happens overnight though. This has been happening to me consistently
everyday.

During this time, the SMTP log simply shows:
    0[274810]: SMTP Connecting to: mail.myhost.com
And it just waits, and waits, and waits until I hit cancel.

If I close Thunderbird after this and restart it, everything is fine.

During this time, if I telnet to mail.myhost.com from my machine on port 25 and
send commands to it, there are no problems so it's not something on the SMTP
server side.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start Thunderbird and use it regularly.
2. Leave it open overnight.
3. The next day, try to send out an email, doesn't work.

Actual Results:
Thunderbird stops being able to send mail.

Expected Results:
It should have sent the email.
Have you tried with beta2?
You might also want to create a smtp log, see
http://www.mozilla.org/quality/mailnews/mail-troubleshoot.html
I'm told that not that much has changed between Thunderbird Beta 1 and Beta 2.
Looking at the release notes at beta 2 bears that out.

As for the SMTP log, it's mentioned in the description and one with more lines
is in the attachment.

One thing that I did forget to mention though is that I think this got
introduced somewhere along Thunderbird 1.0.6 or 1.0.7 because that's what I was
using when I first started noticing this bug. I had started from Thunderbird
1.0.4 or thereabouts.

I can confirm this bug, it's also likely that this is the same as bug 258043, and it has been around ever since I can remember. I always have to restart - every day. I don't even try to send email in the mornings, I just restart first.

Also bug 278283, which I commented on in March of this year.

I bet this is a duplicate of 173924. Can someone direct me to the right build to test this, I can confirm this with pretty high certainty as I get this every morning.

If this is the same bug, then probably 173924 ought to be re-opened.

If you're not running a build with the fix for bug 173924, why would you say bug 173924 should be re-opened?
Edward, Vaskin,
Are you imap or pop?
Do you still see this problem with TB 2 beta** ?

note bug 173924 is fixed, and does not affect imap.
lacking important information so closing incomplete.
please reopen with additional information if you still see the problem.
