330977 - Messages received during compact operation deleted

Initiated compact operation, performed  'Get message' before compact
completed to receive 2 messages.
Folder displayed (briefly) 2 unread messages which disappeared when
folder was selected.

This problem occurred on a fast machine, 2.4Ghz, with a small inbox
10 messages/14 Mb folder size


Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
This appears to be design flaw, compact/receive operations should be
sequential not parallel or disable 'get' during compact or cancel compact
during receive.

do you mean reseleced, as in:
1. you display folder A, 
2. selected compact, 
3. the new messages came and disappeared, 
4. you selected another folder B, 
5. came back to folder A and the new messages were still gone?

Is your thunderbird version, build ID version 1.5 (20051201)?

Related to Core bugs 110289, 94390, 91731, although these appear to be
from 2001 (It's back)

Build Identifier: version 1.5 (20051201)

Exact steps:
1. Selected inbox
2. Initiated 'compact folders'
3. Initiated 'get messages' (2 messages)
4. Folder list window displayed 2 new messages (bolded 2) (folder summary file obviously updated)
5. Compact operation completed
6. Compact operation clears the message list window so I selected inbox 
again to redisplay.
7. Folder list window updated - new message count disappears
   Message list window updated - no new messages

the symptoms stated in your step 6 exactly describe the results from Bug 324085 comment 5
