right click & save as on the Windows / Linux x86 / Mac OS X download links at http://www.mozilla.org/projects/calendar/lightning/download.html gives you e.g. Windows.htm as the filename, which is a bit confusing (linux fx trunk 20061115). perhaps linking directly to releases.m.o would be a useful compromise in this case? (presumably it regresses bug 335276 of course...)
Works fine for me using Opera 9.02. Issue with your browser?
yes, firefox is funny like that (and konqueror fwiw). bug 299372

repoened; clearly not a of bug 299372. either
- fix by changing download linkage until fixes to 299372 ship
- wontfix and hope 299372 fixed eventually
- worksforme after fix of 299372

Unfortunately, doing so would prevent us from capturing download numbers.

You're right that this isn't a duplicate of bug 299372, but it sure is blocked by it (unless we decide to change the linking).

Depends on: 299372

There are alternative ways of handling this. You could have the download cgi script named the same as the file to be downloaded or you could just processes the logs. Either should be fairly easy to do depending on your setup.
We will not change the behaviour and reinvent the wheel here. We will wait until bug 299372 is fixed.

I'm beginning to disagree with this decision. I'd much rather just point straight to the xpi. Better to have more users download the extension, rather than a smaller set which we can count, and a second set that are frustrated with the experience and may not come back.
We have to work around this. Pointing at somebody else is easy, but won't fix the situation for our users.

After discussing this with jminta, mvl and lilmatt, I've substituted the links with direct links to releases.mozilla.org
