User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.1) Gecko/20061204 Firefox/2.0.0.1
Build Identifier: version 2 beta 1 (20061206)

The junk mail detection feature is great, as is the new mail notification feature. However, they should not mix... there's no point in popping up a notification for new mail that's marked as junk. I dunno if mail sent to trash by user filters are also shown in new mail notification... in any case, the popup notification should be limited only to new messages that the user would care to be informed about.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Leave the new mail notification popup settings at its default setting.
2. Receive new mail (only junk or junk and real mail)

Actual Results:
The new mail notification popup notifies of the newly received junk mail. yay.

Expected Results:
new mail notification should be applied only to new messages the user would be interested in knowing about - those which are not marked as junk and/or sent to trash automatically.
probably bug 233929 or bug 233930. please mark as duplicate of the corrrect one if so.
is your junk mail moved to the junk folder, or left in the inbox?
Not sure if that is what this bug is about, but I have seen that sometimes the subject and preview text of junk mails are shown in the notifications. I think the junk and some real mail have to arrive at the same time, I don't get notified for only junk. (I have junk moved to Junk-folder.)

Left in the Inbox is bug 233929. Filtering to a different folder before the junk controls execute is bug 233930.

That sounds like a different bug: if your junk is auto-moved from Inbox to Junk folder, it won't *cause* an alert -- but the code used by the alert pop-up to determine which messages to preview does look in all the folders with new messages, and may not be ignoring junk folders.

I have also seen this. No notifications when only junk received. Junk + not-junk shows correct number of new (not-junk) messages, but displays previews of junk messages. The not-junk messages were filtered into sub-folders of inbox I don't know whether that's relevant. The junk messages would not have been filtered out.
The code to determine which messages to display needs an explicit junk status check, even when bug 23929 is fixed.
Using Thunderbird version 2.0.0.0
The description of Trevor is exactly what happens for me too.

Also using Thunderbird version 2.0.0.0.
Did not experience this behaviour with Thunderbird 1.5.

I'd like to see all new messages in all folders (including new mail filtered into folders by thunderbird or on server), apart from Junk (and Trash). Should be reasonably easy: if it has a junk flag, just ignore it for the alert.
