When header mode is normal and twisty is collapsed (= the old "breif mode"), it is often the case that the subject is truncated in the message view - and of course in the thread pane as well. Not being able to see the full subject in both panes seems a waste.  

And yet, there is ample space on most screens to display more of the subject line and conversely I suspect most people don't need to see so much of the entire addressee line. Frankly, when I'm in 3-pane I don't need to see the addressee in the message pane - seeing the addressee in the thread pane is quite sufficient. See attached screen shots of 3-pane and standalone message window.

This is a counterpoint to bug 325661, "long subjects should be wrapped".

studied all the view layouts (wide, vertical) and standalone and none of them are anywhere close to immune to this problem, including, surprisingly, standalone and wide.

just wanted to note that there is some work underway to change the headers and message view inside bug 449691.  in particular it should help to resolve this problem.

This has been fixed with bug 449691 landing.  New bugs about problems with that layout should be filed separately.
