535373 - New tab momentarily renders last opened when no message pane

This seems to be a remnant from bug 481855:

When opening a new tab with the message pane hidden, the new tab first renders the last opened message before to render the one we're actually opening.

This is especially visible when the message has to be loaded from an IMAP server.

The same thing happens when switching between tabs albeit in a less visible manner.

How difficult would it be to briefly display a loading message/progress indicator, especially if load was taking more than say 0.15 seconds or so?

(From what I understand, fixing the underlying cause of this bug requires a lot of deep-down refactoring and rewriting, so I'd like to explore workarounds for now.)

Doesn't seem to be; I still see this in Miramar.
