I want to set up two separate news servers, one for news.bangsta.com on port 119
and one for news.bangsta.com on port 120. Messenger does not allow me to have
two separate news accounts pointing to the same news server, even though they
are different ports.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
Create a news account for news.bangsta.com, create a new account for
news.bangsta.com (with the intenion of changing the port number to 120).
Messenger won't allow it. Messenger does not like if you try to put two
consecutive news URL's into it either. I tried putting news://news.bangsta.com
and news://news.bangsta.com:120.

Actual Results: In the first case, Messenger wouldn't even acknowledge two
separate servers. When I tried cooercing it to accept two separate servers by
putting in the URL's above, Messenger thought they were the same account and
changed the preferences of them in tandem when any modifications were made.

Expected Results: I should have two separate news accounts, independent of each
other, one on port 119 and one on port 120
yep, known limitation. we have some architecture issues to fix before we can do
this, such as getting rid of nsMsgAccountManager::FindServer

wfm in Account Manager (see the bug marked dup)
Account Manager *UI*, that is.
I'd like to be able to create two accounts pointing to the same server on the
*same* port, too. This would allow me to use two different identities for
different subjects (e.g. work / home).
I forgot: I managed to work around this by using the hostname for one entry and
the IP address for the other.

on top of not being able to have several accounts with the same news server,
there are consequences that are not discussed in this bug. Maybe should I file
another bug ?

1- mozilla lets the user create another account with the same server, but the
created account is not displayed, and no error message is displayed.
=> if it is forbidden, at least an error message should inform the user that the
operation failed (and explain why).

2- when you have created another account B with the same server of the account A
: the account B is not really created, as stated in 1), and if you click on a
group in the account A, mozilla asks you if you want to subscribe to the group,
even if you've been a subscriber of this group !
=> something happened when trying to create the account B that changed the
configuration of account A !

I'd like very much to see the possibility of creating multiple accounts on a
same server implemented, but if it is a complex task, maybe it should be less
complex to have the current mechanism have a correct behaviour ?
