Firefox sync will be using JPAKE codes for device activation. Since we don't know ahead of time in the UI what type of device the user may be trying to add, we would like to have a support document available that can provide a more detailed explanation than we could ever hope to provide in the interface itself. The use case for this specific article: -The user is on their second device, and in trying to set up Sync they are shown a JPAKE code. The description above reads "To activate, go to Sync Options on your other device and select "Add a Device" *Show me how*" -This article shows the user how to click "Add a device" on platforms that have that feature (currently desktop Firefox, but eventually including fennec as well).
I'm working on this article (and the ones in bug 613416 and bug 613417) and it seems that neither Fennec nor Firefox Home have "Show me how" links on the JPAKE setup screens.
I'm also seeing that when setting up sync on another computer, there isn't a JPAKE setup screen in Minefield. You have to add your username, password and sync key. Is this the intended workflow or is a JPAKE screen in the works?
I'm seeing jpake in my nightly build. Was the server down when you tried it?
cc'ing some people to clarify which platforms we currently have jpake working on now.
Sorry Alex, looks like I had an update waiting to be applied. I thought I had the latest version. I see it now.
The Sync 1.6 add-on will not have the easy setup UI (because the platform doesn't support J-PAKE). Both Fennec and Minefield nightly builds should have it since yesterday. The UI should be pretty much complete, apart from bug 618300. If you find other bugs, please file them (Mozilla Services :: Firefox Sync UI). Thanks!
Comment 8 says screenshots are missing, but the article is there, so I'm closing this bug. Please reopen/file follow up if necessary.
