When I press Reply on a message that I've sent earlier, the right thing to do is to start composing the message using the same "TO" field that the original message had, _not_ "To: myself". Same with Reply-all, it should use the original To and Cc fields in this case.
This used to work correctly in Communicator 4x.

Adjusting the summary.
Summary: Reply and Reply-all on massage "From: myself" should use the original To: → Reply and Reply-all on messages sent "From: myself" should use the original To: field
Reporter, are you replying from the same account you have sent the first message? I am not able to reproduce this problem!

ducarroz: Here are better steps to reproduce: 1. Send someone (not yourself) an email. 2. Go to your "Sent" folder for the same account. 3. Click on the message you just sent. 4. Click reply. Expected: The address in the reply field should be the address you originally sent the email to. Actual: The address in the reply field is yourself. I just reproduced this on linux trunk 2001100908.
Target Milestone: mozilla1.0 → mozilla1.1
Also, I don;t know if this should be considered the same bug, or another one, but IMHO for "reply" and "reply all" purposes, "myself" should mean not only the address that is listed in the current identity, but also an address from any other identity. OTOH, may be some people would not want that at it should be a preference - I am not sure.

reproduced on win2000 1.4b (May 4 2003) Using reply-all shouldn't add the sender's address to the recipient list, and previous To: should remain To:, as well as previous Cc: should remain Cc: See also http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=200894
I am on Mozilla 1.6 Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040123 1) I agree with the original poster. This is driving me nuts. It used to work "correctly" -- I think on Mozilla 1.2 (but don't hold me to that). It certainly worked "correctly" on Netscape 4.76 2) Both "Reply" and "Reply to All" have this problem. Using "Reply to All", the TO gets set to me (the original sender) and the CC gets set to the original recipient -- which is the person to whom I believe the TO should be set. 3) There may be an appropriate difference between "Reply" and "Reply to All", but one or the other of them ought to work such that the TO is set to the the original recipient(s) -- certainly *not* the original sender. 4) I believe that Bug #208101 is essentially a duplicate of this bug. I have cross-posted on both bugs. Jay Smith

if the author's e-mail address is the same as the current identity's e-mail address, make reply go to the to: field

Comment on attachment 203435 [details] [diff] [review] proposed fix this could come in handy when I'm replying to messages in my sent folder. I won't end up in the To field right?

Does this fix handle "cross-identity" cases (when the message is "From: myotheridentity")? If not, should I file a follow-up entry? P.S. Thanks a lot for fixing this!
Yes, thanks for this long lasting bug eventually fixed ! Feel free to look at this one also http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=200894

I didn't do anything about the cross-identity case - I suppose we could iterate over the identities associated with the account (I wouldn't iterate over all the identities in the profile - I don't think that would be desirable). Feel free to file a new rfe bug for that - I doubt I'll have time to get to it, but perhaps someone else will. It should be pretty straightforward.
Filed bug 317167 on considering all account identities.

I know this issue is very old, but I'd like to re-open it, because its showing up in 24.6.0. It would be great if this is fixed. Same steps to reproduce as outlined above: 1. Send someone (not yourself) an email. 2. Go to your "Sent" folder for the same account. 3. Click on the message you just sent. 4. Click reply. Expected: The address in the reply field should be the address you originally sent the email to. Actual: The address in the reply field is yourself. Thanks to anyone that can fix it (again)!
We don't reopen fixed ancient bugs. File a new bug with clearer steps to reproduce. What you wrote works fine for me. (Someone else can not be one of your identities.)
