FWIW: I don't see the bug on a current Linux CVS build. Is this really a layers? No popup here - all looks OK.
Before assigning "evangelism" and "fixed".... I suggest the bug is: 1) The cryptic error message "1 exceeds the number of menu layers" (what exactly does that mean in english???) should be replaced by somehting like, "part of this site does not conform to the w3c standard, and may not be displayed correctly" 2) The pop-up should only appear once. Escaping for the site, which usually must be done by killing the window, becuase of the repeated number of pop-ups, is just as hard as escaping from the well known xxx sites, that use multiple windows!!! We the mozilla users, don't create web sites, there is mozilla feature some where that users can block the multiple opens. So please don't replace it by something inane as multiple alerts when you hit a web site that isn't w3c compliant Pls reassign this bug so the above two "bugs" can be fixed.
The "1 exceeds the number of menu layers" and the multiple alerts are generated by the javascript on the page when mozilla tells it that it document.layers does not exist. They are not generated by mozilla. Mozilla is merely responding to requests from the page to popup a window with an error message. It really is not mozilla's responsibility to tell what the intention of the javascript code is. Sites have a right to detect if they are connecting to an ns4 browser. The purpose of evangelism is to ensure that mozilla users, and users of other browsers have a pleasant HTML experience. That includes both working DHTML and freedom from bad javascript code.
Sorry, missunderstood the nature of the problem. Thanks for the explaination

With Netscape 6.2 on Win2K, I can't even do a search on "TFT". The enter key nor the Go button do anything. OS -> All. Accepting bug. P3.

I also got this message from the PCworld page when mousing over the menu in the left frame. This blocked use of the popup menus to navigate the site.
I get this from the menu on the left hand side of the following page: http://www.dixons.co.uk I'm guessing from the OnMouseOver or something like that event (JavaScript knowledge a little rusty).

note that they also need to sniff better as they are using a IE/NS4 sniffer, send us ns4 javascript - document.layername.document.formname -. the IE version - document.formname - is good for us, so they just need to update their sniffer.

Seeing as they are a very high profile group (largest electrical goods retailer in the UK) and they still failed to upgrade (yes i've e-mailed them too) isn't there any way we can 'quirk' this so that it works?

still occuring as of 1.4 final (linux and windows builds) on 4th July, so they still haven't done anything about it themselves.
I need a contact adres here.

This bug is still here and still annoying. It should be noted that if you try and email Webmaster@dixons.co.uk you won't get a reply. The most you'll get is an error telling you that some .nsf file isnt there (Dixons use Lotus mail servers) and it cant continue. I've sent a mail to corporate.affairs who usually reply (i've had to contact them before), so hopefully something will be done about it.
Erk, I meant to add to that comment that I've tried the sites www.pcworld.co.uk , www.dixons.co.uk , www.thelink.co.uk and www.partmaster.co.uk (all Dixons). The Link is the only one which works correctly (i.e. dosent prevent you from using its menu system). Also, I've tested for the bugs in Netscape 7.1 and the latest Mozilla (2003092704). I will post any email recieved from Dixons (which I will hopefully get soon :))
