We should use a proper tracking bug for the Lightning 2.6.1 release instead of hard to track status whiteboard entries.

well, after applying all 6 patches (or are there more), exchange tasks no longer show up, so wondering if there's some issue with "Exchange 2007/2010 Calendar and Tasks Provider 3.1.3" add-on.

The patches between 2.6 and 2.6.1 should have no effect on the exchange addon, please ask for support with the addon author first.

Lightning 2.6.1 has already been released (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/lightning/versions/2.6.1). Next Thunderbird-compatibility release will be Lightning 2.6.2 (for Thunderbird 24.1). Next bugfix release will be Lightning 2.6.3.
