latest update caused aberrant Behavior in Unified View Inbox, almost exactly like the cloned bug. Opening the unified Inbox in unified view caused the previously displayed content to be frozen in the window. moving the Cursor over the content would cause that content to disappear.
The workaround in comment #18 of original bug report solved the issue:

Name: Thunderbird
Version: 68.10.0
Build ID: 20200629235513
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:68.0) Gecko/20100101 Thunderbird/68.10.0
OS: Linux 5.8.0-36-generic
+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #774351 +++
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_7_4) AppleWebKit/536.11 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/20.0.1132.57 Safari/536.11
Steps to reproduce:
I'm on OSX 10.7.4 and I recently updated from 13.0 to 13.0.1. Since the update I've noticed two specific problems, although I'll only describe the main problem with the unified inbox on this ticket (I mention there are two problems in case they are connected - I'll file another bz separately for the other issue regarding my main address book being missing/corrupted/not working as expected).
Actual results:
The unified inbox views (both of them: the "Local Folders - Global Inbox" and the "Inbox" parent of my 5 email accounts) no longer function. Since the dot-update attempting to use either unified view fails: when selecting the unified view there's a funny new component near my cursor, the pane that shows the subject lines (name?) does not refresh, and mousing over any [now stale] email in that pane causes an explicit refresh of that line from whatever it was to an entirely blank line. The blank line is not clickable in any way and cannot be interacted with at all.
Expected results:
The upper right pane (again, name?) should have refreshed with a unified inbox view.

On Linux and macOS works for me without problems.
Anyone can check this on Windows?
I wonder if this issue is related to leftover data in old profiles.

I'm always using the unified folder view with a mixture of POP and IMAP severs but I normally don't use the parent folder because I want the folders of the same type only grouped together.
I tested now with the parent folder and had no issues also when new messages arrived.

Alessandro,
(In reply to Richard Leger from comment #3)
In TB 86.0b3 (64-bit) on Windows 10
My test was on Windows :-)
After investigating a bit the issue and running some tests here is what I found:
- Running TB in Safe Mode with all add-on disabled did not sorted the issue
- Setting up TB with a new profile and x4 IMAP mailboxes (the same one as in the profile where it would not work) I noticed that the Unified Folders > Inbox worked fine... even with cache disabled on IMAP mailboxes.
Comparison:
- In Unified Folders > Inbox > Properties I noticed two things that were different in the settings between the two, in the TB profile where it did not worked:
-- The search online option was disabled
-- The Choose button shows no selected folders
So the fix was to enable the search online option and to select at least one Inbox folders via the Choose button... and then press Update button to save changes and apply them.
So it seems that when you enabling the Unified Folders view in a legacy profile, some options are not properly set preventing the Unified Folders > Inbox view to work properly and show any items.
Solution and fix to be confirmed by others that may encounter the issue...

So the fix was to enable the search online option and to select at least one Inbox folders via the Choose button...
It seems to only work if you select one Inbox folder of any account in the Unified Folders > Inbox > Properties > Choose selection box...
If you select multiple Inbox folders, then TB just keep searching for emails and the list remain blank empty.
With the same error appearing in console when you click on Unified Folders > Inbox:

Testing the workaround killed my unified view (which is my standard use) :-(
Before I changed anything, Inbox -> Property -> Choose ... had nothing selected, the online search was grayed out and everything worked.
After I selected one or two folders the pane remains empty (does not matter if search is enabled or not)
I cannot revert to the old behavior, as it does not allow me to update the setting after I have deselected all folders again. It tells me it needs at least one.

Is this maybe related to the MSF corruption or anything else of that sort?
I can't reproduce and I have no idea how to approach this.

My suggestions would be:
- upgrade to last stable version 91.13+ (soon to be auto upgraded to 102.x) see if the issue has been fixed somehow or not
- if not, test with a new profile (or copy of existing profile) in TB Beta version installed in parallel of TB stable version, see if the issue has been fixed somehow or not
If issue persists, step to reproduce and settings triggering it may need to be identified for further investigation...
As per my Comment 7 I did noticed the following:
In Unified Folders > Inbox > Properties I noticed two things that were different in the settings between the two, in the TB profile where it did not worked:
-- The search online option was disabled
-- The Choose button shows no selected folders
So the fix was to enable the search online option and to select at least one Inbox folders via the Choose button... and then press Update button to save changes and apply them.`
So could that be of any help to identify steps/settings to reproduce the issue?

Fyi,
In TB 106.0a1 (2022-09-07) (64-bit) seems to be working fine in a new email profile with multiple IMAP/SMTP account (x2). As per attachment, by default in Daily the options are referred to in previous comment seem to be present as expected...
So likely the issue may come from upgrade process from old profile that do not set the proper options on Unified Inbox properties and consort...
So maybe making sure that Unified Inbox option are setup properly when unified view is enabled first time after upgrade could fix issue? Or a warning issued to end-user?

While I am not Richard, I encountered the same bug as Richard in bug 1856997, when my Ubuntu 22.04 updated Thunderbird 102 to 115 yesterday evening.
The cited comment in comment 0 (eg. deleting "$profile/Mail/smart mailboxes") solved it for me. I was then able to re-select "grouped folders" and after a few seconds of TB utilizing 100% CPU, it again gave me a way to access my mail accounts in the usual grouped manner.

I cannot confirmed as I had Unified Folder view disabled before the upgrade.
After the upgrade, enabling Unified View shows no issue so far but I am not using Unified View much those days as it tends to be buggy previously!
That the problem with buggy features is that when they tends not to be fixed quite quickly you just stop using them, that is how I reverted back using 115 for a while as drag/drop in beta had became unusable in the past months, still trying to recover from that bad user experience :-)
Sorry I could not help more on this one.

Wayne,
Small correction it appears I am still on 102.15.1 (64-bit) stable version of TB, so I have not yet upgraded to 115.3.1
In 102.15.1 (64-bit) though if I enable Unified Folder view, I do not see any messages when clicking on the Inbox, Sent, etc... unified folder. The message list is simply blanked. That is likely why I stopped using it at some point as it was simply not working as expected. If I unfold and select a mailbox, then message appears. I suppose this may need correction before I upgrade... and confirm about your question at hand!

Fyi, see attached.
As mentioned in previous comment when enabling Unified Folders in TB 102.15.1 (64bits) on Windows with multiple IMAP accounts, when clicking on the Unified Inbox folder (or any other folders like Sent), the Message List now remains entirely empty.
Trying to Right Click > Properties > Repair the folder or run in Sage Mode did not fixed.
Someone reported the same issue in TB 115.0b6 (64 bits) on TopicBox while discussing Unified Folders not working properly:
https://thunderbird.topicbox.com/groups/beta/T14ffc06ff9b828b8-Mecae69e29146add1e499b1b2
Despite someone suggesting that some bug was fixed in TB 115.0b5:
https://thunderbird.topicbox.com/groups/beta/T14ffc06ff9b828b8-M0be6b9c7933c51ea7963834b/v115-beta-4-unified-folders-dont-work-correctly-after-restarting-thunderbird
Could it be that while fixing Bug 1834479 a regression was introduced and ported back to 102.x branch?

I have not been able to reproduce in 115.3.1 (64-bit). I have experienced problems with refreshing the unified inbox, where upon start-up, new messages aren't added to the view and entries are only updated individually upon selection. I'm still trying to figure out how to consistently reproduce that problem, it is probably only relevant using "sort by new". not sure if it is related to this.

Hi Wayne,
Fyi, after an unexpected automatic upgrade to TB 115.3.2 (64-bit) when opening 102.15.1 (64-bit) with my ESR profile, the Unified Folder view is still not working properly, basically no sub-folders appear under Unified Folders Inbox, and not message listed in the Unified Inbox > Message List.
While investigating Bug 1858723, I found the following manual workaround to fix the issue in TB 119.0b4 (64-bit) via my separate Beta user profile was:
- Go to Unified Folders > Inbox > Properties
- Press Choose button - Make sure accounts mailboxes Inbox are properly selected/ticked and press OK
- Select the Search Online option
- Select/Tick the Match all messages radio button instead the pre-set Match all the following option.
- Press Update
This cause:
- account mailboxes and sub-folders to appear under Unified Folder Inbox as sub-folders
- data to be populated in the Unified Inbox > Message List
But I am now confronted to Bug 1858941 in TB 115.3.2 with my ESR user profile where the Unified Folders Inbox properties are simply no longer available following the upgrade (not impossible that the problem may have been anterior, or broken at some point in the profile somehow, but I cannot confirm as I cannot revert back too 102), therefore I cannot apply the same fix/workaround described above to fix the Unified View issue in my ESR user profile in TB 115.3.2 ESR.
Hope that make sense.
