Details

Whenever we ask a user to set Firefox as default (or make Firefox their primary browser), if they accept, we should also pin the launch to the taskbar (Win 10) or add the browser to their dock (Mac).

See also Bug 1699842

We may need to update the copy wherever we ask to set Firefox as the default browser to "Make Firefox my primary browser".

Bug 1702000 added "primary" combined pin+default to the "default browser" prompt. Bug 1699842 added it for macOS in the upgrade dialog as pin then default screens. Bug 1712802 split about:welcome's "primary" screen into pin then default.

Other places that currently set default include…

Practically probably just need to update the about:preferences copy and button although even then, unclear if it should be a combined button or just a separate line for pinning, e.g.,

  • Firefox is not your default browser [Make Default…]
  • Firefox is not pinned to your taskbar [Pin to taskbar]

And even then changes to about:preferences might want to be part of a larger redesign of that in-content page.

Bug 1703874 added remote infobar that uses PIN_AND_DEFAULT as the action although the strings only refer to "Set as default"
