The primary way Firefox currently gets users to set the default is to show a modal prompt when starting Firefox, and on Windows 10, the result of clicking "Use Firefox…" opens up the Windows Settings / Default apps screen that highlights the current default Web browser without actually changing it.
We can do some experiments like asking the user from about:welcome or Firefox Home with various UI treatments, e.g., full page or infobar.

We had already attempted an infobar experiment and then backed out in the past.

We had already attempted an infobar experiment and then backed out in the past.
We ran an experiment with the infobar in Q4 and it showed some promise so we're continuing our investigation.
