User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.4) Gecko/20030624 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.4) Gecko/20030624 There needs to be a button for toggling between brief headers and all headers for Thunderbird. There is a Menu option, but there needs to be a button right next to headers themselves to toggle the behavior more easily. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.

I agree. There are already a button near the "Subject" which toogle headers between normal and compact, so this extention whouldn't be too complex (IMHO)
I previously hadn't noticed the arrow wiget, but a button would be more visible. Also it'd be nice to be able to copy all headers, not just one line.
I would like to see the headers display inline, then it's all part of the text and you're able to copy it easily. This is how Eudora does it and it works pretty well. See the screen shot below. Maybe this should be an option "header display method" http://www.perturb.org/images/1/eudora-headers.png
Another possible solution other than a button would be an option on the right-click menu per-message would be helpful.
This started as a confusing bug report, and comment 2 makes things more confusing. A reporter with Edit Bugs privileges really ought to know better. Tironsi: do you want a toggle between Normal and All (which is what the menu provides) or between Compact and {Normal or All, whichever is selected in the menu}, which is already available as the twisty (+/- button) in the envelope panel? If the latter, this bug is invalid (there is no way the twisty will be replaced by a button); if the former, this is Seamonkey bug 213459 (see also bug 150908). (In reply to comment #2) > Also it'd be nice to be able to copy all headers, not just one line. -and- (In reply to comment #3) > I would like to see the headers display inline, then it's all part of the text > and you're able to copy it easily. View | Message Source gives you a full, scrollable, copyable display of the headers and message text in one window. Given this feature, what I think should be done with All Headers mode is to remove it entirely -- bug 154712.
Summary: button to show all headers → button/context menu to show all headers

FYI, I wrote an extension to add this button. Not sure how to go about adding into thunderbird itself but I'm guessing it'd be a pretty simple cut and paste job for someone who knows what they were doing. You can check it out at http://joshandmerci.com/proj_thunder.php as well as bug #251924 which is for it's going onto the update website.

The AMO link for the View Headers Toggle Button add-on is: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/210 I consider this to be a basic User customization for inclusion in the pallet of toolbar drag&drop items.

please update the bug based on version 3 UI/behavior. note there is currently a twisty. why need a button? xref Bug 224374 - Choosing which Headers to view (custom)
Component: Mail Window Front End → Message Reader UI
QA Contact: front-end → message-reader
The button referenced in Comment 8 and Comment 9 was not updated for TB3. Comment 10 seems to be influenced by use of the Compact Header extension, so needs clarification. The xref to Bug 224374, the ref was updated 10/29/2010. Given the Message pane Header panel of TB3.1 has it's own button pallet, an extension that would add a toggler button would be practical.

An easy toggle to show/hide all headers was added in the message pane header More > Customize in bug 1556261.
