Send mail with return notification set - when received by TB (or other email prog) the return receipt is not prompted for or sent. Using POP3 accounts only with multiple accounts in Global Inbox. This is using latest (Dec 1st) TB 1.0RC1 and has been the same for TB since at least 0.8. N.B. This was raised before with #242519 & #264854 which were both (incorrectly?) closed as a duplicate of #178820 - which they are not as that was to do with IMAP. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Compose mail with return receipt flag set and send 2. 3. Actual Results: Receive mail - no return receipt prompted for or sent. Expected Results: prompt for sending return recipt (with default prefs)

This is one of two ride along bugs I talked to Chris H. about for the 1.0.1 release. THe patch was checked into the 1.0 branch and the trunk two days after Thunderbird 1.0 was released without any problems or regressions.

I couldn't wait around for approval anymore on something I had already talked to Chris about. Time is running out for the 1.0.1 builds.

I tested this with the tbird 20050301-1.0.1 build on linux fc3: 1. set up two POP accounts (accounts A and B), both using Global Inbox. 2. turned on sending Return Receipts, as well as using the default "ask me" (to be prompted) choice upon receiving Return Receipts. 3. sent an email from A to B. 4. hit Get Mail button and clicked on the new email from step 3. results: I got a dialog asking me whether I wanted to notify sender A that I received the email. I clicked OK to do so. 5. click Get Mail again. results: I received the Return Receipt from B. this sounds like this feature is working for POP with a Global Inbox, but please let me know if there are other aspects which need testing. it also worked fine when I sent email as B to A.

also looks good using 2005030802-1.0.1 tbird bits on mac os x 10.3.8. Tracy, how does this look on Windows?

This is not working on Windows XP with global POP accounts or individual POP accounts. I'm POP'ing a webmail account from yahoo. IMAP account works, so I know I have the correct settings. Sarah, can you confirm this isn't working on Windows from a different server? if so reopen this bug?

just tested this with the winXPsp2 machine in the office, and it also works fine for me. discussed this w/tracy, and it might be because his ISP is blocking receipts. verifying as fixed using 2005030909-1.0.1 tbird bits.

Under WinNT 4.0 It worked with previous Nightly builds (last days of december 2004) but NOT fixed in 1.0.2 ! (as always written in known issues for 1.0.2 version) I've got 2 pop3 accounts with global account management. Each pop account has "use global options ..." value checked and global values (in tools-->options) is "allow NR for some messages" and "ask me" for each case (sorry direct translation from french;-)). Test I've done : send a message to me : "Disposition-Notification-To:" header is in the sent message AND in the received one (two saved with "File-->Save As..-->File" in eml format) but it doesn't work ! It'a very (very ...) annoying bug in business use

addition to previous comment : NR for a mail sent from Outlook (header "Return-Receipt-To:") received in TB works fine.

Thunderbird 1.0.2 and WinNT. Two Accounts: Pop (Global Inbox) and IMAP (separate Inbox). I send all possible messages with return receipts. Only IMAP->Pop works fine. I get the dialog by updating the global Inbox and the Imap shows me the confirmation mail. All the other tests failed, no dialog. The header of all mails is correct.

(In reply to comment #20) > Thunderbird 1.0.2 and WinNT. > Two Accounts: Pop (Global Inbox) and IMAP (separate Inbox). > I send all possible messages with return receipts. > Only IMAP->Pop works fine. I get the dialog by updating the global Inbox and the > Imap shows me the confirmation mail. > > All the other tests failed, no dialog. The header of all mails is correct. So, are you saying this should be reopened or what?

I'm not shure, because the the summary talks only about POP. If somebody can confirm the bug with imap, the issue should be reopened. Peter
