Any reason this is a tracking bug and not a keyword? Keywords are there for a
reason ...
Comment 2•25 years ago

It's not a keyword, because it would be more-or-less redundant. There's a `User
Interface: Design Feedback' component already.
I suspect this is Trudelle's personal tracking bug for UI stuff he's interested
in. Just be glad he uses a tracker bug, instead of plastering a redundant flag
everywhere (like don@netscape.com does with `[RFE]').

It is a tracking bug because that is better for tracking the issues. Keywords
don't facilitate viewing the dependency tree, or notification when bugs change.
I would like to have a UI keyword though, to be able to find bugs that are
logged against other components.

"Personal" tracking bugs should use the stored query facility which can display
a set of bugs and not appear in the database. Excluding trudelle's issues, all
the facilities should be in place to do this now.
Viewing the dependency tree is a known issue, see bug #12992.
For knowing what bugs have been added to a keyword, you'll have to look at bug
#14137.

I don't know what you mean by "personal", but I'm not doing this to amuse
myself; it is part of my job as a manager on this project. I'm using this bug to
track the resolution of some serious design issues. The bug reports you mention
propose good enhancements, but in themselves provide nothing that I need, hence
the tracking bug.

Adding another UI issue: Consistent Padding/margin values, bug 29237
Depends on: 29237
Comment 7•25 years ago

"Personal" means for one person. Hence no need to be in the database, given
adequate support. Otherwise it should be a keyword.
Those enhancement requests provide sufficient functionality to do this, if
there's something missing let me know.

This bug is for the benefit of a group of people concerned about the UI. Please
try to understand the context of the situation before telling people what they
should or should not be doing.
Comment 9•25 years ago
|
||
Err, excuse me? When did I tell someone what to do?
It is fine to create a tracking bug if it provides extra functionality, I was
trying to find out what it was in this case, if any, so I can submit
enhancements as necessary so we no longer need to use tracking bugs.
Noone said whether it was personal earlier - that's not a problem, the aim then
is to improve Bugzilla so it can be a keyword.

Peter, you filed this bug, and I don't know exactly what it's for -- other than
by watching how quickly particular bugs get fixed, I have no way of telling
which bugs are `of concern to developers' and which are not. Reassigning to
you, but I suspect the bug has served its purpose.

I'm starting an effort to formalize an effort to revise the parts of Mozilla's
appearance outside themes, such as the icon suite, the installer, the splash
screen, and the Profile Manager dialog.
I've started a web page with some initial ideas and bug links at
[http://greg.tcp.com/mozilla/ui/Outside/introduction.html]. I welcome any and
all comments on it.

Marking all tracking bugs which haven't been updated since 2014 as INCOMPLETE.
If this bug is still relevant, please reopen it and move it into a bugzilla component related to the work
being tracked. The Core: Tracking component will no longer be used.
