I'm seeing this again, for a couple weeks I think.
Moving mouse over the deleted message line updates the display.

narrowed to 20090511 works, 20090512 fails. I'm going to blame the regression on bienvenu's  Bug 492149 deleting msg from smart folder causes hdr area to get cleared :)

I would think SM also will be affected

today I see this in *regular* folders in vseerror imap account. I don't know what changed to cause me to start seeing this. no folders of any kind were were added to this account. no filter changes. I tried 3.1a nightly in hopes that Bug 531505 might help - no luck.

deleted my ~6 virtual folders and now all is well, both with the regular folders, *and* with the issue described in comment 0.  More later.

now the problem is not seen. but I have two saved searches defined, which seemed to be causing this.  

It's unclear what changed to cause this. But I did noticed today that folders are more accurately (color) indicating they have new messages, and in a very timely manner. One other change is I had just restarted TB with a wsm0 account folder selected, which is not normal (I usually in am in vseerror). Changed back to starting in a vseerror folder and the problem hasn't returned.  

I haven't updated in many days. Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9.1.7) Gecko/20100108 Shredder/3.0.1pre

bienvenu, protz any thought on this?  Is the description clear enough?

I still see this, sometimes it happens after deleting a message, and and sometimes not. closing the message list, going back the the facet search results page and reclicking "Open as List" resolves the issue (at least temporarily)

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps:
1. do Search Messages (global)
2. pick "Open as List"
3. delete a message

results:
message is deleted. however, 
a) the row of the deleted messages is still there , and the message remains in the message preview
b) as you mouse over the rows below, then the lower messages "move up"
c) clicking a different message in the remaining list doesn't change what is seen in message preview


I guess I'll see whether I can reproduce on a different machine over the next week

Yes. And, a year or two ago, there were times when it might have crashed when a message was deleted.   But that symptom is gone.  I assume it was fixed. Perhaps one of these ...

fixed Bug 515860 - [faceted search]: deleting last message in 'view as list' mode gets thread view confused - has somewhat similar symptoms

And, I could swear there was a bug about advanced search that reported something similar, but I can't find it. (maybe I'm thinking of Bug 355169, which isn't what I'm looking for)

Bug 515860 was about the synthetic cross-folder view created by the search results "open as list" function not listening for all changes in all the folders in the view. This basically meant the view didn't get notified about the delete completing, and ended up in the weeds.

Wayne, are you in threaded mode in your search results? Reproducing this is really going to be key.

yes. (that's the default for everyone afaict)

that said, reproducing doesn't require that the message being deleted be part of a thread >1 message

Dang, I briefly had steps reliably failing for me which would seem related to this bug

1. global search something
2. open as list
3. open message in conversation from a message, doesn't matter if thread has only one or more one message
4. delete a message from the conversation
5. go back to the list

Observe that navigating message list doesn't update preview pane

I repeated this 5-6 times today. And on a previous day. Then suddenly I couldn't reproduce, including after a restart
