In latter versions (3.6.x) when FF is closed and a link in an eMail or double clicking a URL file is done FF is opens and presents a window sometimes two, but does not propagate the URL into the any of the windows. The window has to be manually closed and the link reactivated or the URL pasted into the address bar.
FarmerBob, sounds like you're describing bug 531552.
I searched and found nothing that fit my description. That is why I posted. I have read the thread, it's close, but does not mention the issue when FF is closed. But when it is running. When mine is running it works as it should. It's from startup do I encounter this. 

I will add my findings to the 531552 thread.
