When opening group of tabs another unwanted blank tab is opened.
It is not added to bookmark, it is just opened.
Appeared in 1.1b, absent int 1.1a.
Blank tab existing in new window should be used to show one of urls in boomark
rather than leaving it untouched.

The behaviour of not clobbering any existing tabs when opening is correct
according to the fix for bug 134800.
Are you suggesting that if only a blank page is open in the browser(e.g. if your
homepage is set to be blank) then this page should be used as part of the group?
Or are you describing a situation like the one described in bug 152278(which
I cannot reproduce btw)?
(I would agree with reusing a single blank tab with no history in the browser.
I also use a blank page as a homepage and end up with a useless blank page and
my tab group pages).

Yes.

No. And I cannot reproduce it too.

That is what I mean. I think it would be right and expected behaviour.
I agree with the initial comment - when you open just one bookmark it also uses
the current tab. It's just a matter of being consistent IMHO.

This bug is not a duplicate of bug 153016, since it is dealing with a situation
where this is only ONE tab in existence - whereas bug 153016 deals with multiple
tabs (as well as just one). (In the subset of just one tab, this bug could also
have been marked a duplicate of bug 158365 or bug 159266 - but none of those is
appropriate given the limited scope of this bug and the much broader scope of
those.)
However, in having my attention brought to this bug, I do note there's another
one that's a duplicate of this one.

IMHO: This bug should be about replacing a single existing tab with the first
tab of a tab group if said single tab is either blank OR the browser's defined
Home page. (In other words, you should be able to open Mozilla and immediately
open a tab group - regardless of whether the initial tab is actually blank or
the intial
Home page - without having a resultant dangling left-most blank or Home tab.)

Completely agree with Jason!
After I read the loong discussion of several bugs, mainly bug 153016, I can see
no resolution for them at the moment. However until we agree on the general
solution, I think noone will oppose a fix on this bug, i.e. Comment #7.

Note the progress on bug 203960. If it is finally resolved as FIXED, it will
also fix this bug. (Currently, this bug is "fixed at the moment" because of it.)

not meaning to be difficult, but this still happens.
Moz 2003092304, which has the fix for bug 203960.
- Pref is set to APPEND tabs instead of replace.
- Open Moz, on startup mine shows a blank page.
- Open a group of tabs
-> they are appended PRESERVING the first blank tab.

In that case, removing dependency (since it has no bearing) and tweaking the
summary to make things clearer.
While setting tab group behaviour to always replace IS a workaround here,
obviously the focus of this bug is (now) more edge-case, and the intent is that
a single blank tab also be replaced when using append behaviour.
No longer depends on: 203960
Summary: When opening tab group bookmark in blank window, don't preserve empty tab → When opening tab group bookmark in blank window, don't preserve empty tab - regardless of other preferences.

MASS-CHANGE:
This bug report is registered in the SeaMonkey product, but has been without a comment since the inception of the SeaMonkey project. This means that it was logged against the old Mozilla suite and we cannot determine that it's still valid for the current SeaMonkey suite. Because of this, we are setting it to an UNCONFIRMED state.
If you can confirm that this report still applies to current SeaMonkey 2.x nightly builds, please set it back to the NEW state along with a comment on how you reproduced it on what Build ID, or if it's an enhancement request, why it's still worth implementing and in what way.
If you can confirm that the report doesn't apply to current SeaMonkey 2.x nightly builds, please set it to the appropriate RESOLVED state (WORKSFORME, INVALID, WONTFIX, or similar).
If no action happens within the next few months, we move this bug report to an EXPIRED state.

Initial report still valid:
1. Open new Window
2. Open a group of n tabs.
You have n+1 tabs open, the first one is blank.
