since the reporting date is old, I just wanna note, that this error still can be seen with build 2003080204, win2000 and I think this bug should be fixed within V1.5
The bug is still there. Confirming with Moz 1.4.1 and Moz 1.5 build 20031007 on WinNT4, Win2K and WinXP. Dupe of this could be bug 184232.

WORKAROUND:Clicking on your personal address book and then going back to your mailing list is enough to make the entry disappear. CONFIRMED in multiple platforms in just-marked-duplicate bug 184232 "An address deleted from a mailing-list group continues to show until Mozilla is restarted". Then adding an entry to the list causes a PARTIAL refresh: both the deleted(!) and new entries are displayed. Yuck! Improving Summary to reduce dupes.

Mozilla 1.8a build 2004041809 WinNT4 I notice this no-refreshing of the card-pane only if there is a vertical scrollbar there. Create a new list with only 2 or 3 cards, if you now delete a card in the card pane the update works immediately.

I've got Thunderbird 1.5 (20051201) on WinXP Step to reproduce: 1. Open adress book 2. create a mailing list 3. add a few entry into it 4. select the mailing list in the left tree: you've got entries in the right panel 5. select an item 6. press "Del" key ==> entries is not deleted on the screen but really deleted in the mailing list. Double clic on the mailling list: a new the windows appears that show the items was deleted.
With version 1.5.0.7 (20060909), not only do I see the same behavior, but it has gone an extra step. I have entries it the list that do not appear when I click on properties. They used to be in the properties, but were removed weeks ago. Since then, there have been multiple system restarts, and as least one Thunderbird upgrade; not to mention several other Thunderbird restarts. I have also had lists show duplicates that when are deleted will remove a non-duplicate address (it appears that Thunderbird is giving the correct address cards the wrong name when displaying them in the list).
Reproduces on 1.5.0.7 on Win XP, and here's one more nuance: 1. Create a mailing list 2. Add some addresses by drag-and-dropping from the Address Book 3. Delete some names from the mailing list and things work properly -- the deleted names disappear and the list is updated BUT 1. Create a mailing list 2. Add some addresses by drag-and-dropping from the Address Book 3. *Close the Address Book* 4. *reopen the Address Book* 5. Delete some names from the mailing list and the bug happens. Somehow, the list isn't updated properly if the address book is reopened, but it works if you are still in the same "session." This may be what has made the bug hard to track down.
I'd like to confirm this bug still exists on TB 2.0.0.6.
Successfully deleted 20 addresses without any problems with TB 2.0.0.6. Recommend close
Recommend NOT closing: following the steps in comment 22, I still have the same problem in TB 2.0.0.6. Contacts on a list do not disappear when they are they deleted, but are gone when the contact list is reopened.
Second the DO NOT CLOSE recommendation. I have also just reproduced the problem on two different machines using the steps in <a href="show_bug.cgi?id=181165#c22">comment 22</a>. TB version 2.0.0.9 (20071031) on Mac OSX 10.5 and Mac OSX 10.4.11 (Intel Macs).
This bug has been fixed by the patch on bug 406921. Not duping to bug 406921 as it is not exactly the same bug. The changes will be in the next major version of Thunderbird.
