We offer a context menu on the in-context get messages button that allows users to get messages for a specific account only. We should offer a similar context menu on the get messages button in the unified toolbar.
I agree with that.
Whereas with me the functionality was still given up to TB 102.x (if I have it correctly in mind) and only starting from version 115.x then no more.
Until TB 102.x I had a similar button in the toolbar. It didn't have a context menu (if I remember correctly), but it was split in two. And if you clicked on the smaller second section, you could select your accounts individually and retrieve them one by one.
As of TB 115.x, this button has only one button and one more context menu capability.
True, there is now a new button in the upper left above Local Folders (I've attached a screenshot to clarify what I mean) which has this dual functionality (via contect menu). But this button is very small and unfavorably in the very left corner.
Alternatively, it should be possible to drag this button to the toolbar via the customize function, so that it can be used there instead of the previous button, which has now unfortunately lost its double functionality. Please make the button bigger (like the old one) and give it the option to display text ("Get messages") again and a frame for better visibility would be great too.
PS: And don't forget, you can only see the new button on the left at all if you have selected under Bic-Mac-Menu -> View -> Folders -> Folder Pane Header.
So I would prefer it if everything was still in one place in the toolbar, including the "New message" button.
So how do I get new messages for the current/selected account?
Seems that these new changes just get pushed with no real explanation as to why or how we're now meant to use them.
Check comment #2, there is another "Get Messages" button that allows getting messages for all or individual accounts.

Sorry for off-topic, since I already had my penny in this discussion. Sorry again if I do not use proper terminology.
After latest update we have two rows of menu (bars) in the header of the TB window:
-- one with options Get Messages, Write, Reply... etc.;
-- another one with File, Edit, View...
I believe they should switch the places.
You probably more often use Get, Write, Reply.. than File, Edit, View..
That's why the currently upper line should be closer to working area/pane.
Regards,
JR

Thanks Martin.
I think this would be wontfix for 115 since this affects strings?

It's a single string, and it's got a migration script so as long as that works as expected, uplift is fine.

115 doesn't like the nesting: https://hg.mozilla.org/comm-central/rev/7a095c465e08a88ebaf80c995e09eee9539574e5#l9.22

We have a question about the behavior of the 115.4.0 candidate. If you are able, please test https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/candidates/115.4.0-candidates/build3/
Unified Toolbar...
With Get Messages and at least one other action configured to be in the toolbar...
- does the Get Messages appear in your toolbar?
- do all other actions appear in the toolbar
- if you left click on Get Messages does it work?
- if you right click on Get Messages does it work?
- if you right click on Get Messages is the only thing wrong that icons are not showing for each account?

Per alex "it uses nested CSS which are not fully supported in 115"
So backout needed

The Unified Toolbar - 'Get Messages' button now has a right click option to allow selecting an account, but no one would know if it exists because there is no indictation. It is missing the downward chevron to show there is a drop down menu.
As this bug has been marked as fixed I've created a new bug 1861871
Basically, I'm saying a right click on a 'button' is not intuitive nor the generic use of buttons in Thunderbird. All 'Buttons' that have options have a visual indication of those options by display of a chevron which is used to show options in a drop down style menu. eg: Tag. So this fix (right click) is not the kind of fix which you expect on a 'Button' and no one would know it exists.
