[Meta] Panorama Performance
Panorama needs to *zip*. This bug tracks our work on getting Panorama to be performant on a minimal viable machine. While we are waiting for exact specs on this, a good benchmark is a Windows box you can pick up for around $500.
Our metric for zipping is (for starters and subject to change based on reality) the following: For an average number of tabs (<=25): We want to achieve 30 FPS For a huge number of tabs (<=400): We want to go no lower than 15FPS
The priorities for speed probably come in this order: 1. Loading — We still lag on restarting Tab Candy, which gives a heavy feel 2. Zooming — Getting in and out of a tab. This is a very common action and your locus of attention is on getting somewhere not organization. 3. Interactions (Dragging/Grouping) — Also a common action, but at least you are thinking about grouping actively 4. Systemic — Everything else (many tabs, etc.)
