When right-clicking on a bookmark in "My sidebar" (thus invoking a contextual menu), it would be nice to have the option "Open in new window" listed there.
see bug 33758: "Middle click to open in new window should work in sidebar" A comment in that bug says that links in sidebar panels also also ought to inherit contex menus links in normal pages have. Context menus isn't a specifically mentioned in the original bug-report, so not marking dup now, but i think this would naturally sort under bug 33758.
mpt, design master, what do you think? Should this be confirmed? Should this be marked a duplicate of bug 33758? This is about context menus, while bug 33758 is about middle-click, but you commented that context menus should inherit all the menuitems of normal links. What do you think of this? Are you aware of another bug about siderbar context menus? Fabian.
Well it shouldn't be marked as a dup of bug 33758, for the very good reason that 33758 is fixed and this is not. But as I said in bug 33758, links in sidebar panels should have the same context menus as links in Web pages -- so confirming. This is currently being discussed in bug 61305.

The bookmarks sidebar is a tree, not a webpage, so I don't see what this has to do with the discussion about context menus in html sidebar panels. I think this is a dup of bug 31266.

I'd say this blocks 31266. Bug 31266 looks too much like a tracking bug.
Summary: Contexutal menu on bookmarks should offer "Open in new window" → Bookmark context menu should offer "Open in New Window"
mpt: why does this bug depend on bug 61305?
Because bug 61305 is discussing whether or not sidebar panels should have context menus at all. If that bug gets fixed by removing the context menus altogether, this bug will get wontfixed. But feel free to remove the dependency if you think it's too tenuous.

What does that "and in new tab" mean? Marcos.
Marcos, the latest Real Cool Feature in Mozilla is the ability to have a tabbed browser interface a la Opera. So if we're going to have an 'Open in New Window' command for the bookmark context menu, it would also be handy to have an 'Open in New Tab' command. See http://www.mozillazine.org/talkback.html?article=2032 for more details about the tab browser.
Thanks Bishop :-) And agreed with the "Open in new tab" Marcos.

It would be also nice if it was possible to open in a new 'tabbed' window...
Kamil Toman 2001-10-29 14:09 ------- > It would be also nice if it was possible to open in a new 'tabbed' window... It doesn't make any sense at all to me, since the newly created page would have only one tab (the opened address). Now, if you want that all newly created windows display the tab interface by default, then file another bug, if it already doesn't exist. One option for that bug that would make sense is placing an option in menu View->Show/Hide->Tabs, and sub-options "Show always" and "Show only when needed" as default. Perhaps a "Hide always" like in 'Site Navigagion bar', but that wouldn't make as much sense. Marcos.
reassigning to me.
